Abstract

A stent with varying porosity is described. The stent can be comprised of multiple stents attached together. A braided stent may have selected regions of increased thickness. The stent may be comprised of wires that are welded together at their ends in order to minimize vessel trauma. The stent may comprise a helically wound radiopaque wire wound through the stent.

Claims

1. A stent comprising:

a tubular shape formed from at least one wire;

said tubular shape having a first region that has a first porosity and a second region that has a second porosity that is higher than said first porosity.

2. The stent of claim 1, wherein said first region is woven with a first braid pattern and said second region is woven with a second braid pattern.

3. The stent of claim 1, wherein said first region is woven with a higher pick per inch than said second region.

4. The stent of claim 1, wherein said at least one woven wire has a larger diameter within said first region than in said second region.

5. The stent of claim 1, wherein said first region and said second region are formed by simultaneously weaving said at least one woven wire on a single stent mandrel.

6. The stent of claim 1, wherein said first region and said second region are separately woven and then longitudinally attached together to form said tubular shape.

7. The stent of claim 6, wherein said first region and said second region are welded together.

8. The stent of claim 6, wherein said first region and said second region are attached via a plurality of mechanical ties.

9. The stent of claim 1, wherein said first region further comprises a plurality of mechanical ties, each of which connect a first stent wire and a second stent wire overlapping said first stent wire.

10. The stent of claim 9, wherein each of said plurality of mechanical ties further comprises a first coil having a first inner diameter and that is disposed around only said first stent wire.

11. The stent of claim 10, wherein each of said plurality of mechanical ties further comprises a second coil having a second inner diameter that is larger than said first inner diameter;

said second coil being connected to said first coil.

12. The stent of claim 11, wherein said second coil is disposed around said first stent wire and said second stent wire.

13. The stent of claim 11, wherein said second coil is disposed around only said first stent wire.

14. The stent of claim 11, wherein each of said plurality of mechanical ties further comprise a third coil having a third inner diameter equal to said first inner diameter;

said third coil being disposed around only said first stent wire.

15. The stent of claim 11, wherein each of said plurality of mechanical ties further comprise a third coil having a third inner diameter equal to said first inner diameter;

said third coil being disposed around only said second stent wire.

16. The stent of claim 1, wherein said first region and said second region are separately woven and then longitudinally attached together to form said tubular shape;

wherein stent wire of said first region is connected to stent wire of said second region via a coil.

17. The stent of claim 16, wherein free ends of said stent wire of said first region and said second region terminate with an enlarged portion and wherein said enlarged portion is larger in diameter than said coil.

18. The stent of claim 1, wherein said at least one woven wire comprises a plurality of wires, and wherein said wires each terminate with an eyelet connected to an eyelet of an adjacent wire.

19. A method of delivering a stent, comprising:

delivering a first stent near an aneurysm such that a first region of said first stent having a low porosity is located partially across said aneurysm;

advancing a guidewire through a pore of a second region of said first stent having a higher porosity than said first region;

advancing a microcatheter along said guidewire and through said pore of said second region of said first stent; and

,

delivering a second stent from said microcatheter so as to be located partially across said aneurysm.
