Abstract

A continuous glucose monitor for wirelessly transmitting data relating to glucose value to a plurality of displays is disclosed, as well as systems and methods for limiting the number of display devices that can connect to a continuous glucose transmitter. In addition, security, including hashing techniques and a changing application key, can be used to provide secure communications between the continuous glucose transmitter and the displays. Also provided is a continuous glucose monitor and techniques for authenticating multiple displays, providing secure data transmissions to multiple displays, and coordinating the interaction of commands and data updates between multiple displays.

Claims

1. A method for connecting a transmitter of a continuous glucose system with a plurality of displays, comprising:

advertising, by the transmitter, at a defined communication interval;

receiving, in response to the advertising, requests from a first display and a second display to connect with the transmitter;

determining whether to authorize connections with the first display and the second display based a device type for the first display and a device type for the second display;

executing an authentication process to pair the first display and the second display with the transmitter when the connections are authorized; and

storing bonding information associated with the authentication process in memory.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

inserting a hashed value associated with a transmitter identifier into advertisement signals;

comparing the hashed value in the advertising signals with a hashed value of a transmitter identifier from at least one of the first display or the second display; and

authorizing the connection when the hashed value in the advertising signal matches the hashed value of the transmitter identifier from at least one of the first display or the second display.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the method repeats periodically at a plurality of defined communication intervals.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the plurality of defined communication intervals occur at approximately five minute intervals.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the authentication process comprises exchanging an application key that changes periodically.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein a first list being a hardware-level list stores the types of allowed devices, and a second list being a software-level list stores the bonding information.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising limiting the number of displays connected to the transmitter with a given device type to one in the communication interval.

8. A system for connecting a transmitter of a continuous glucose system with a plurality of displays, the transmitter being configured to:

receive, in response to the advertising, requests from a first display and a second display to connect with the transmitter;

determine whether to authorize connections with the first display and the second display based a device type for the first display and a device type for the second display;

execute an authentication process to pair the first display and the second display with the transmitter when the connections are authorized; and

store bonding information associated with the authentication process in memory.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the transmitter is further configured to:

insert a hashed value associated with a transmitter identifier into advertisement signals;

compare the hashed value in the advertising signals with a hashed value of a transmitter identifier from at least one of the first display or the second display; and

authorize the connection when the hashed value in the advertising signal matches the hashed value of the transmitter identifier from at least one of the first display or the second display.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein transmitter periodically advertises at a plurality of defined communication intervals.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the plurality of defined communication intervals occur at approximately five minute intervals.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein the authentication process comprises exchanging an application key that changes periodically.

13. The system of claim 8, wherein a first list being a hardware-level list stores the types of allowed devices, and a second list being a software-level list stores the bonding information.

14. The system of claim 8, further comprising limiting the number of displays connected to the transmitter with a given device type to one in the communication interval.

15. A computer-readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by a processor, perform a method for connecting a transmitter of a continuous glucose system with a plurality of displays, comprising:

advertising, by the transmitter, at a defined communication interval;

receiving, in response to the advertising, requests from a first display and a second display to connect with the transmitter;

determining whether to authorize connections with the first display and the second display based a device type for the first display and a device type for the second display;

executing an authentication process to pair the first display and the second display with the transmitter when the connections are authorized; and

storing bonding information associated with the authentication process in memory.

16. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the method further comprises:

inserting a hashed value associated with a transmitter identifier into advertisement signals;

comparing the hashed value in the advertising signals with a hashed value of a transmitter identifier from at least one of the first display or the second display; and

authorizing the connection when the hashed value in the advertising signal matches the hashed value of the transmitter identifier from at least one of the first display or the second display.

17. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the method repeats periodically at a plurality of defined communication intervals.

18. The computer-readable medium of claim 17, wherein the plurality of defined communication intervals occur at approximately five minute intervals.

19. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the authentication process comprises exchanging an application key that changes periodically.
