Abstract

Methods, systems and devices are provided for providing user interface navigation of screen display metrics of a device. In one example, a device is configured for capture of activity data for a user. The device includes a housing and a screen disposed on the housing to display a plurality of metrics which include metrics that characterize the activity captured over time. The device further includes a sensor disposed in the housing to capture physical contact upon the housing. A processor is included to process the physical contact to determine if the physical contact qualifies as an input. The processor enables the screen from an off state when the physical contact qualifies as the input. The screen is configured to display one or more of the plurality of metrics in accordance with a scroll order, and a first metric displayed in response to the physical contact that qualifies as the input.

Claims

1. A method, comprising,

detecting first physical contact by a sensor of an activity tracking device, the first physical contact being received on a housing of the activity tracking device, the activity tracking device including a screen that is configured to display a plurality of metrics;

examining the first physical contact to determine that the first physical contact qualifies as a double tap input for the activity tracking device;

activating the screen of the activity tracking device responsive to determining that the first physical contact qualifies as the double tap input, the screen being configured to display a first metric of the plurality of metrics;

examining one or more second physical contacts after an occurrence of the first physical contact; and

displaying a next one of the plurality of metrics for each one of the second physical contacts that qualifies as a single tap input, the method being executed by a processor.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of metrics are arranged in a scroll order, such that each one of the single tap inputs causes the display of the next one of the plurality of metrics based on the scroll order.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the scroll order is user configurable, the scroll order defining which of the plurality of metrics is the first metric and which of the plurality of metrics will follow respective ones of the plurality of metrics.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the activity tracking device is associated to a user account, the user account provides access to configure the scroll order.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein a computing device is usable to access a website for the user account, the computing device is provided with one or more graphical user interfaces to configure the scroll order.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein a portable computing device is usable to access a website for the user account, the portable computing device is provided with one or more graphical user interfaces to configure the scroll order, the scroll order being received by the activity tracking device from the portable computing device via a wireless connection.

7. The method of claim 4, further comprising,

enabling wireless communication with a portable computing device that is paired with the activity tracking device, the portable computing device provided with access to a website for access to a user account that is associated with the activity tracking device, the scroll order being stored in association with the user account, and the activity tracking device is configured to receive the scroll order obtained from the website by the portable computing device.

8. The method of claim 4, wherein a computing device is usable to access a website for the user account, the computing device is provided with one or more graphical user interface to configure the scroll order of the plurality of metrics and to remove or add metrics to the plurality of metrics.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the first metric is a home metric that is displayed upon qualifying the first physical contact as the double tap input.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising,

deactivating the screen, after the double tap or after any one of the single tap inputs when a period of time passes without further detected user input;

and

activating the screen after the period of time passes to display the first metric after a first physical contact is qualified as the double tap.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising,

transitioning the screen to an off state in an absence of user input to the activity tracking device.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the first metric is a time metric and a remainder of the plurality of metrics define activity data of a user as captured over time by the activity tracking device, or the first metric is other than a time metric.

13. An activity tracking device configured for capture of activity data for a user, comprising,

a housing;

a screen disposed on the housing to display a plurality of metrics which include a time of day metric and metrics that characterize the activity data captured over time;

a sensor disposed in the housing to capture physical contact upon the housing; and

a processor to detect a first physical contact by the sensor, the first physical contact being received upon the housing of the activity tracking device, the processor examines the first physical contact to determine that the first physical contact qualifies as a double tap input to activate the screen and display a first metric of the plurality of metrics, the processor is further configured to examine one or more second physical contacts after an occurrence of the first physical contact to cause display of a next one of the plurality of metrics for each one of the second physical contacts that is qualified as a single tap input.

14. The activity tracking device of claim 13, wherein the housing is part of a wearable wrist attachable structure, or an attachable structure that can be carried or worn by the user.

15. The activity tracking device of claim 13, wherein the physical contact produces motion that is captured by the sensor, the physical contact is received from a finger or hand.

16. The activity tracking device of claim 13, further comprising one or both of an altimeter and an accelerometer.

The activity tracking device of claim 13, wherein the housing further includes a memory for storing the activity data, captured data, and also includes wireless communication logic, and the wireless communication logic includes one of WiFi processing logic, or Bluetooth (BT) processing logic, or radio processing logic.

The activity tracking device of claim 17, wherein the wireless communication logic is configured to pair with a portable computing device or a computer, and the portable computing device or the computer is configured for communication over the Internet with a server, the server having processing instructions for configuring a scroll order of the plurality of metrics, or removing or adding metrics from the plurality of metrics.

19. The activity tracking device of claim 13, wherein the processor is configured to examine motion profiles captured by the sensor to qualify the physical contact as the double tap input and single tap input.

20. The activity tracking device of claim 13, wherein the plurality of metrics are arranged in a scroll order, such that the processor causes the next one of the plurality of metrics to be displayed after each single tap input based on the scroll order.

21. The activity tracking device of claim 20, wherein the scroll order is user configurable, the scroll order defining which of the plurality of metrics is the first metric and which of the plurality of metrics will follow respective ones of the plurality of metrics.

22. A method, comprising,

detecting first physical contact by a sensor of an activity tracking device, the first physical contact being received on a surface of a housing of the activity tracking device, the activity tracking device including a screen that is configured to display a plurality of metrics in a scroll order;

examining the first physical contact to determine that the first physical contact qualifies as a double tap input for the activity tracking device;

displaying a first metric on the screen of the activity tracking device responsive to determining that the first physical contact qualifies as the double tap input;

examining one or more second physical contacts received on the surface of the housing while the first metric is displayed on the screen; and

displaying a next one of the plurality of metrics on the screen in the scroll order for each one of the second physical contacts that qualifies as a single tap input, the method being executed by a processor.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein the scroll order is user configurable, the scroll order defining which of the plurality of metrics is the first metric and which of the plurality of metrics will follow respective ones of the plurality of metrics.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the activity tracking device is associated to a user account, the user account provides access to configure the scroll order.

25. The method of claim 23, wherein a computing device is usable to access a website for a user account, the computing device is provided with one or more graphical user interfaces to configure the scroll order.

26. The method of claim 23, wherein a portable computing device is usable to access a website for the user account, the portable computing device is provided with one or more graphical user interfaces to configure the scroll order, the scroll order being received by the activity tracking device from the portable computing device via a wireless connection.

27. The method of claim 23, further comprising,

enabling wireless communication with a portable computing device that is paired with the activity tracking device, the portable computing device provided with access to a website for access to a user account that is associated with the activity tracking device, the scroll order being stored in association with the user account, and the activity tracking device is configured to receive the scroll order obtained from the website by the portable computing device.

28. An activity tracking device configured for capture of activity data for a user, comprising,

a housing;

a screen disposed on the housing to display a plurality of metrics which include a time of day metric and metrics that characterize the activity data captured over time;

a sensor disposed in the housing to capture physical contact upon the housing; and

a processor to detect a first physical contact by the sensor, the first physical contact being received upon the housing of the activity tracking device, the processor examines the first physical contact to determine that the first physical contact qualifies as a double tap input to display a first metric of the plurality of metrics, the processor is further configured to examine one or more second physical contacts after an occurrence of the first physical contact and while the first metric is being displayed to cause display in a scroll order of a next one of the plurality of metrics for each one of the second physical contacts that is qualified as a single tap input.

The activity tracking device of claim 28, wherein the housing is part of a wearable wrist attachable structure, or an attachable structure that can be carried or worn by the user and the physical contact produces motion that is captured by the sensor, the physical contact is received from a finger or hand.

30. The activity tracking device of claim 28, further comprising one or both of an altimeter and an accelerometer, and

the housing includes a memory for storing the activity data, captured data, and also includes wireless communication logic;

the wireless communication logic includes one of WiFi processing logic, or Bluetooth (BT) processing logic, or radio processing logic.
