Abstract

Briefly, a variety of embodiments, including the following, are described: a system embodiment and methods that allow random access to voice messages, in contrast to sequential access in existing system embodiments; a system embodiment and methods that allow for the optional use of voice recognition to enhance usability; and a system embodiment and methods that apply to the area of voicemail.

Claims

1. A system for recording, transcribing and delivering voicemail messages, the system comprising:

a server adapted to record a received voicemail message from a voicemail system in a native audio format, convert the recorded audio format to a text representation of the message, convert the recorded audio format to an output audio format, and communicate the output audio format and the text representation to an output device.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the native audio format comprises at least one of a WAV audio file, or an MP3 audio file.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the output device comprises at least one of a mobile phone or interface device.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the output device comprises a mobile phone with two clients;

a message detection module implemented in code native to the mobile phone, and a message client implemented in code not native to the mobile phone.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein code not native to the mobile phone comprises at least one of Java, Flash, HTML, or a combination of Javascript and HTML (“

AJAX”

).

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the output device is operable to store the output audio format of all received voicemail messages.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the output device is operable to store the output audio format of a subset of received voicemail messages and is operable to retrieve the output audio format for non-stored messages and/or the messages on demand through a network connection.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the output device is operable to retrieve the output audio format and/or messages in the format on demand as requested by a control module of the output device.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the output device is operable to retrieve the output audio format and/or messages in the format via a network connection.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the network connection comprises at least one of the following:

a cellular network, a wireless fileity (“

Wi-Fi”

) nework, an internet protocol (“

IP”

) network, a connection capable of providing access to voicemail messages or combinations thereof.

32. The system of claim 1, wherein the output device is able to provide random access to voicemails on the server via a communication connection.

33. The system of claim 1, wherein the server and the output device are able to become mutually synchronized regarding received voicemail messages via a communication connection.

34. The system of claim 1, wherein the server comprises a backend server.

6. A method for recording, transcribing and delivering voicemail messages, the method comprising:

capturing via a voicemail system a received voicemail message in a native audio format;

converting the native audio format to a text representation of the message;

converting the native audio format to a output audio format; and

communicating the text representation and the output audio format of the message to an output device.

30. The method of claim 6, and further comprising:

synchronizing received voicemail messages between the voicemail system and the output device.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein the synchronizing includes establishing a communication connection between the voicemail system and the output device.

35. An apparatus comprising:

a mobile device comprising a voicemail system;

wherein the mobile device is adapted to transcribe voicemail messages to text messages and/or to forward voicemail messages to a server for transcription.

36. The apparatus of claim 35, wherein the mobile device is adapted to transcribe or forward voicemail messages for transcription based at least in part on transcription capability of the mobile device.

37. The apparatus of claim 35, wherein the server comprises a backend server.

38. The apparatus of claim 37, wherein the backend server comprises a message server.

39. An apparatus comprising:

a mobile device comprising a voicemail system;

wherein the mobile device is adapted to receive and/or deliver one or more voicemails to a user via one or more of a plurality of message channels.

40. The apparatus of claim 39 wherein the plurality of message channels comprises at least one of the following:

email, SMS, a pool of telephone numbers, a voicemail system, a website interface, or any combination thereof.
