Abstract

A disclosed communication apparatus includes a receiving unit that receives metadata of update data used for an update; a determination unit that determines, based on a description of the metadata, whether or not there is update data that is subject to advance download in which download of the update data is executed before a point of time at which the update is able to start; a control unit that determines whether or not it is timing to perform the advance download; and an update processing unit that downloads the update data in a case in which the determination unit determines that there is the update data that is subject to the advance download and the control unit determines that it is the timing to perform the advance download.

Claims

1. A communication apparatus comprising:

a receiving unit that receives metadata of update data used for an update;

a determination unit that determines, based on a description of the metadata, whether or not there is update data that is subject to advance download in which download of the update data is executed before a point of time at which the update is able to start;

a control unit that determines whether or not it is timing to perform the advance download; and

an update processing unit that downloads the update data in a case in which the determination unit determines that there is the update data that is subject to the advance download and the control unit determines that it is the timing to perform the advance download.

The communication apparatus according to claim 1, wherein in a case in which a video conference application is activated and a video conference is not started, the control unit determines that it is the timing to perform the advance download and the update processing unit starts or restarts the advance download.

3. The communication apparatus according to claim 1, wherein in a case in which a video conference is started, the control unit determines that it is not the timing to perform the advance download and the update processing unit stops the advance download.

The communication apparatus according to claim 3, wherein in a case in which the control unit determines that it is not the timing to perform the advance download and the update processing unit stops the advance download, the update processing unit stops the advance download after downloading all data being downloaded in a case in which a downloaded data amount is equal to or greater than half of the data being download.

The communication apparatus according to claim 3, wherein in a case in which the control unit determines that it is not the timing to perform the advance download and the update processing unit stops the advance download, the update processing unit stops the advance download while discarding data being downloaded in a case in which a downloaded data amount is equal to or less than half of the data being download.

The communication apparatus according to claim 3, wherein in a case in which the control unit determines that it is not the timing to perform the advance download and the update processing unit stops the advance download, the update processing unit stops the advance download immediately regardless of a downloaded data amount.

7. The communication apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the data is divided data and the data amount is a data amount of the divided data being downloaded.

8. A communication system including an update server and a communication apparatus that can be connected via a network,

wherein the update server includes a providing unit that provides update data and metadata in response to a request from the communication apparatus, and

wherein the update server includes,

a receiving unit that receives the metadata of the update data used for an update;

a determination unit that determines, based on a description of the metadata, whether or not there is update data that is subject to advance download in which download of the update data is executed before a point of time at which the update is able to start;

a control unit that determines whether or not it is timing to perform the advance download; and

an update processing unit that downloads the update data in a case in which the determination unit determines that there is the update data that is subject to the advance download and the control unit determines that it is the timing to perform the advance download.

9. A communication method comprising:

a receiving step of receiving metadata of update data used for an update;

a determination step of determining, based on a description of the metadata, whether or not there is update data that is subject to advance download in which download of the update data is executed before a point of time at which the update is able to start;

a controlling step of determining whether or not it is timing to perform the advance download; and

an update processing step of downloading the update data in a case in which it is determined that there is the update data that is subject to the advance download in the determination step and it is determined that it is the timing to perform the advance download in the controlling step.
