Abstract

Technology for mapping an enhanced physical downlink control channel to physical resource blocks in a radio frame is disclosed. One method comprises mapping modulated symbols in the ePDCCH to at least one control channel element. The at least one control channel element may be mapped to resource elements located in a plurality of distributed physical resource blocks in a subframe, wherein each resource block is in a distributed resource block group and is separated by at least one additional resource block in the subframe. The mapping may also be to resource elements distributed in a single resource block in the subframe, wherein the control channel element is mapped to be distributed in frequency and time relative to other mapped resource elements in the single resource block and the single resource block belongs to a localized resource block group.

Claims

1. A system, comprising:

a map module to map a modulated symbol in an extended physical downlink control channel (ePDCCH) to one of a localized control channel element (CCE) in a localized resource block (RB) of a localized resource block group (RBG) and a distributed CCE in a distributed RB in a distributed RBG;

map the localized CCE to a localized resource element (RE); and

map the distributed CCE to a distributed RE; and

a transmitter to transmit the ePDCCH to a user equipment (UE).

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the mapping module further to:

map the modulated symbol in the ePDCCH to a distributed CCE that is mapped to the localized RB.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the mapping module further to:

map the localized CCE and the distributed CCE to a RB in a subframe of a radio frame, wherein the subframe includes one of the mapped localized CCE and the mapped distributed CCE.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the mapping module further to:

map the localized CCE and the distributed CCE to a RB in a subframe of a radio frame, wherein the RB includes the mapped localized CCE and the mapped distributed CCE.

5. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

an adjust module to adjust a ratio or a partition of the localized RBG and the distributed RBG, respectively.

6. The system of claim 5, further comprising:

a quantizer to quantize the ratio and/or the partition of the localized RBG and the distributed RBG, respectively.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the mapping module further to:

map a localized CCEs to a plurality of RBs that are contiguous in the frequency domain.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the mapping module further to:

map a localized CCE to a plurality of distributed RB that are distributed in the frequency domain.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the mapping module further to:

map a localized CCE to a RB that is not for a reference symbol.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the map module further to:

map the localized CCE and the distributed CCE to a RE in a single RB pair of the subframe.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the map module further to:

map one or more symbols in a localized ePDCCH to ono or more localized CCEs or distributed CCEs.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

a global index module to form a global index for the localized CCE and the distributed CCE.

13. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium having stored instructions there, when executed, result in a system to:

map a modulated symbol in an extended physical downlink control channel (ePDCCH) to one of a localized control channel element (CCE) in a localized resource block (RB) of a localized resource block group (RBG) and a distributed CCE in a distributed RB in a distributed RBG;

map the localized CCE to a localized resource element (RE); and

map the distributed CCE to a distributed RE; and

transmit the ePDCCH to a user equipment (UE).

14. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 having stored instructions there, when executed, result in the system further to:

map the modulated symbol in the ePDCCH to a distributed CCE that is mapped to the localized RB.

15. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 having stored instructions there, when executed, result in the system further to:

map the localized CCE and the distributed CCE to a RB in a subframe of a radio frame, wherein the subframe includes one of the mapped localized CCE and the mapped distributed CCE.

16. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 having stored instructions there, when executed, result in the system further to:

map the localized CCE and the distributed CCE to a RB in a subframe of a radio frame, wherein the RB includes the mapped localized CCE and the mapped distributed CCE.

17. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 having stored instructions there, when executed, result in the system further to:

adjust module to adjust a ratio or a partition of the localized RBG and the distributed RBG, respectively.

18. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 17 having stored instructions there, when executed, result in the system further to:

quantize the ratio and/or the partition of the localized RBG and the distributed RBG, respectively.

19. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 having stored instructions there, when executed, result in the system further to:

map a localized CCEs to a plurality of RBs that are contiguous in the frequency domain.

20. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 having stored instructions there, when executed, result in the system further to:

map a localized CCE to a plurality of distributed RB that are distributed in the frequency domain.

21. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 having stored instructions there, when executed, result in the system further to:

map a localized CCE to a RB that is not for a reference symbol.

22. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 having stored instructions there, when executed, result in the system further to:

map the localized CCE and the distributed CCE to a RE in a single RB pair of the subframe.
