Abstract

Aspects of the present invention relate to providing see-through computer display optics with improved content presentation.

Claims

1. A method for controlling image presentation in a see-through head-worn display system with improved viewability for a user comprising:

determining a brightness of a see-through view of a surrounding environment;

determining a brightness metric of an image to be displayed; and

adjusting an attribute of the image based on the brightness metric of the image and the brightness of the see-through view of the surrounding environment such that a predetermined combined brightness of the see-through view and the brightness of the image is presented to the user.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining a photo-responsive operating zone of an eye of the user and wherein the step of adjusting the attribute of the image is further based on the operating zone.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the step of adjusting the attribute of the content improves the user'"'"'s see-through viewability.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the step of adjusting the attribute of the content improves the user'"'"'s view of the image.

5. The method of claim 2 wherein the operating zone of the human eye is selected from at one of photopic, transition and scotopic vision.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the attribute includes changing a contrast in the image.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the attribute includes changing a color of objects in the image.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the attribute includes changing a color balance in the image.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the attribute includes changing a font size of text in the image.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the attribute includes changing the image to a monochrome image.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the monochrome image is a red image.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein the monochrome image is a green image.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the head-worn display system further comprises a camera for capturing an image of the surrounding environment that includes at least a portion of the see-through view of the surrounding environment.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising the steps of:

analyzing the captured image to identify an attribute of the surrounding environment; and

wherein the step of adjusting the attribute of the image includes adjusting the attribute further based on the identified attribute of the surrounding environment.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the attribute of the surrounding environment is a type of object.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the attribute of the surrounding environment is a range of color.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the attribute of the surrounding environment is a local range of color within a portion of the see-through view and the adjusted attribute of the image is a local color within a portion of the displayed image.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein the head-worn display further comprises a camera for capturing images of the user'"'"'s eye to determine a direction where the user is looking;

and

wherein the step of determining the brightness of the see-through view of the surrounding environment involves determining the brightness of the see-through view of the surrounding environment in the direction.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the image is adjusted differently in a portion of the image that corresponds to the direction.

20. The method of claim 1 wherein the image to be displayed includes a user interface controlled by eye tracking and the image is adjusted to be brighter than the see-through view to reduce jittery eye movement.

21. The method of claim 20 wherein the image is adjusted to be 2×

or more brighter than the see-through view.
