  • determining that the mobile device is located at a first frequently visited location based, at least in part on an association of measured characteristics of radio frequency signals with expected signature values or detection that the mobile device is receiving power from an external power source, or a combination thereof;

    determining that a barometric pressure sensor on board the mobile device is in a calibrated state;

    obtaining a first pressure measurement from the barometric pressure sensor while located at the first frequently visited location;

    storing a first indication of an altitude of the mobile device and an indication of the first frequently visited location, the first indication of the altitude of the mobile device being based, at least in part, on the first pressure measurement;

    determining that the mobile device has returned to the first frequently visited location;

    obtaining a second pressure measurement from the barometric pressure sensor while located at the frequently visited location; and

    calibrating the barometric pressure sensor based, at least in part, on the stored first indication of the altitude of the mobile device and on the second pressure measurement.
