APPARATUS FOR TRACKING A SPECIFIC BLOOD PRESSURE
First Claim
1. A device for performing repeated measurements and tracking of a distinctive blood pressure level in a blood vessel in a body part, wherein the device comprises,a pressure control unit for controlling a pressure providing device to apply an external pressure to the body part,a detector unit for detecting appearance of a physical characteristic indicative of the distinctive blood pressure level, whereinthe device is configured to:
- (i) control the pressure control unit to change the external pressure in a first direction until the physical characteristic has been detected;
(ii) in response to the detection of the physical characteristic, measure the external pressure between the body part and the pressure providing device by use of a pressure sensor connected to the pressure providing device so as to provide a measure of the distinctive blood pressure level;
(iii) in response to the detection of the physical characteristic, control the pressure control unit to change the external pressure in the direction opposite to the first direction until the physical characteristic is no longer detected; and
(iv) cyclically repeat (i), (ii) and (iii) to produce a signal that tracks the distinctive blood pressure level over time.

Abstract
The invention relates to a device configured for tracking e.g. the diastolic blood pressure in a patient. The device applies a pressure to a body part, e.g. by use of an inflatable cuff. By performing repeated and alternating pressure changes in the cuff a specific feature of a signal that relates to the diastolic blood pressure can be tracked and possibly measured.

15. A computer program product comprising program code instructions which when executed by a processor causes the processor to:
-
(i) control a pressure control unit to change the external pressure applied by a pressure providing device in a first direction until the physical characteristic has been detected; (ii) in response to the detection of the physical characteristic, control a pressure sensor connected to the pressure providing device to measure the external pressure between the body part and the pressure providing device so as to provide a measure of the distinctive blood pressure level; (iii) in response to the detection of the physical characteristic, control the pressure control unit to change the external pressure in the direction opposite to the first direction until the physical characteristic is no longer detected; and (iv) cyclically repeat (i), (ii) and (iii) to produce a signal that tracks the distinctive blood pressure level over time.
