Abstract

A method of generating application build options in a cloud computing environment that includes receiving application usage data by a set of currently instantiated applications. The method further includes identifying, in view of the application usage data, a set of application resources in a cloud computing environment. The method further includes identifying additional application resources to be added to the set of application resources, to produce a modified set of application resources. The method further includes determining a cost of utilizing the modified set of application resources. The method further includes generating, in view of the cost of utilizing the modified set of application resources, a recommendation to modify the set of currently instantiated applications.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving application usage data by a set of currently instantiated applications;

identifying, by a processor, in view of the application usage data, a set of application resources in a cloud computing environment;

identifying, by the processor, additional application resources to be added to the set of application resources, to produce a modified set of application resources;

determining a cost of utilizing the modified set of application resources; and

generating, in view of the cost of utilizing the modified set of application resources, a recommendation to modify the set of currently instantiated applications.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

causing an application resource of the modified set of application resources to be migrated to a second cloud computing environment.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

causing an application of the set of currently instantiated applications to be migrated to a second cloud computing environment.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the application usage data comprises an average, over a period of time, per-user cost of an application of the set of currently instantiated applications.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the data comprises at least one of:

a number of application instances, a number of user per instance, a response time, a downtime, or a failure rate.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of currently instantiated applications comprises a virtual machine.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein identifying the set of application resources comprises receiving a confirmation of a resource status.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving an instantiation request specifying an application resource and a period of time for utilizing the application resource.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

monitoring the set of currently instantiated applications to collect the application usage data.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

verifying compliance of the set of currently instantiated applications with software licensing requirements.

11. A system, comprising:

a memory;

a processor, operatively coupled to the memory, the processor to;

receive application usage data by a set of currently instantiated applications;

identify, in view of the application usage data, a set of application resources in a cloud computing environment;

identify additional application resources to be added to the set of application resources, to produce a modified set of application resources;

determine a cost of utilizing the modified set of application resources; and

generate, in view of the cost of utilizing the modified set of application resources, a recommendation to modify the set of currently instantiated applications.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the processor is further to:

cause an application resource of the modified set of application resources to be migrated to a second cloud computing environment.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the processor is further to:

cause an application of the set of currently instantiated applications to be migrated to a second cloud computing environment.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the application usage data comprises an average, over a period of time, per-user cost of an application of the set of currently instantiated applications.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein the set of currently instantiated applications comprises a virtual machine.

16. The system of claim 11, wherein the processor is further to:

receive an instantiation request specifying an application resource and a period of time for utilizing the application resource.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:

receive application usage data by a set of currently instantiated applications;

identify, by the processor, in view of the application usage data, a set of application resources in a cloud computing environment;

identify, by the processor, additional application resources to be added to the set of application resources, to produce a modified set of application resources;

determine a cost of utilizing the modified set of application resources; and

generate, in view of the cost of utilizing the modified set of application resources, a recommendation to modify the set of currently instantiated applications.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, further comprising executable instructions causing the processor to:

cause at least one of;

an application resource of the modified set of application resources or an application of the set of currently instantiated applications to be migrated to a second cloud computing environment.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the set of currently instantiated applications comprises a virtual machine.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the application usage data comprises an average, over a period of time, per-user cost of an application of the set of currently instantiated applications.
