Abstract

Devices that take a novel approach to parameter measurement and output or transmission of signals, medicine, heat, etc. These devices are compact, versatile, relatively inexpensive, and require minimal training to be effectively used. These devices can be configured as interchangeable devices incorporated into a wearable article or device.

Claims

1. A wearable article, comprising:

a device body configured to be supported entirely by a finger;

a power supply positioned on the device body;

an output element positioned on the device body, the output element configured to;

receive power from the power supply, and to deliver an output to skin; and

a communication device positioned on the device body and configured to receive a signal from a separate electronic device and to use the signal to control the output element.

2. The wearable article of claim 1, wherein the output element includes at least one of an ultrasonic output device, an audio output device, an electrical output device, a needle, a drug delivery device, a magnetic device, a light emission source, a radio frequency emission device, a sample collector, a drug delivery iontophoresis, a thermal transfer device, a combination drug delivery and thermal transfer device, and a laser Doppler measurement device,

3. The wearable article of claim 2, wherein the output element is a contact output element configured to interface directly with the skin.

4. The wearable article of claim 2, wherein the output element is a non-contact output element.

5. The wearable article of claim 2, wherein the output element is interchangeable with other output elements different from the output element.

6. The wearable article of claim 1, wherein the communication device is one of a watch, a laptop, a tablet, and a cell phone.

7. A wearable article, comprising:

a device body configured to be supported entirely by a finger;

a power supply positioned on the device body;

an input element positioned on the device body, the input element configured to;

receive power from the power supply, to measure a parameter of skin, and to transmit a signal representing the measured parameter; and

a communication device positioned on the device body and configured to receive the signal and to transmit the signal to a separate electronic device.

8. The wearable article of claim 7, wherein the input element includes at least one of a glucose meter strip, a light detection device, a radio frequency detection device, a sample collector, an audio receiver or microphone, a camera, a temperature sensor, a combination thermal transfer and drug delivery device, a blood pressure sensing device, a laser Doppler measurement device, and a pressure sensor.

9. The wearable article of claim 8, wherein the input element is a contact input element configured to interface directly with the skin.

10. The wearable article of claim 8, wherein the input element is a non-contact input element.

11. The wearable article of claim 8, wherein the input element is interchangeable with other input elements different from the input element.

12. The wearable article of claim 7, wherein the communication device is one of a watch, a laptop, a tablet, and a cell phone.

13. A wearable article, comprising:

a device body configured to be supported entirely by a finger;

a power supply positioned on the device body;

a combination input and output element positioned on the device body, the combination input and output element configured to;

receive power from the power supply, to provide at least one output to skin, to measure a parameter of skin, and to transmit a signal representing the measured parameter; and

a communication device positioned on the device body and configured to receive the signal and to transmit the signal to a separate electronic device.

14. The wearable article of claim 13, wherein the combination input and output element includes one of a combination needle and glucose meter strip, a combination radio frequency emission and radio frequency detection device, a combination emission and detection device, and a combination thermal transfer and blood pressure sensing device.

15. The wearable article of claim 14, wherein the combination input and output element is a contact input and output element configured to interface directly with the skin.

16. The wearable article of claim 14, wherein the combination input and output element is a non-contact combination input and output element.

17. The wearable article of claim 14, wherein the combination input and output element is interchangeable with other combination input and output elements different from the combination input and output element.

18. The wearable article of claim 13, wherein the communication device is one of a watch, a laptop, a tablet, and a cell phone.

19. A wearable article, comprising:

a longitudinally extending device body;

a grip supported on the device body and extending in a direction that is approximately parallel to the device body;

a power supply positioned on the device body;

a plurality of elements positioned along the device body, the plurality of elements including at least one element from the group input elements, output elements, and combination input and output elements, with the plurality of elements being configured with at least three device functions from the group to receive power from the power supply, to provide at least one output to skin, to measure a parameter of the skin, and to transmit a signal representing the measured parameter; and

a communication device positioned on the device body and configured to receive the signal if the signal is transmitted by the at least one element and to transmit the signal to a separate electronic device.

The wearable article of claim 19, wherein the at least one element is one of an ultrasonic output device, an audio output device, a device including an electrical output, a needle, a glucose meter strip, a combination needle and glucose meter strip, a drug delivery device, a magnetic device, a light emission source, a light detection device, a radio frequency emission device, a radio frequency detection device, a combination radio frequency emission and radio frequency detection device, a sample collector, an audio receiver or microphone, a camera, a combination emission and detection device, a drug delivery iontophoresis, a thermal transfer device, a temperature sensor, a combination thermal transfer and drug delivery device, a blood pressure sensing device, a combination thermal transfer and blood pressure sensing device, a laser Doppler measurement device, and a pressure sensor.

21. The wearable article of claim 20, wherein the at least one element is a contact element configured to interface directly with the skin.

22. The wearable article of claim 20, wherein the at least one element is a non-contact element.

23. The wearable article of claim 20, wherein the at least one element is interchangeable with other elements different from the at least one element.

24. The wearable article of claim 19, wherein the communication device is one of a watch, a laptop, a tablet, and a cell phone.

25. A wearable article, comprising:

a glove including at least one glove finger extension;

a power supply positioned on the glove;

at least one element positioned on the at least one glove finger extension, the at least one element including at least one element from the group input element, output element, and combination input and output element, with the at least one element being configured with at least two device functions from the group to receive power from the power supply, to provide at least one output to skin, to measure a parameter of the skin, and to transmit a signal representing the measured parameter; and

a communication device positioned on the glove and configured to receive the signal if the signal is transmitted by the at least one element and to transmit the signal to a separate electronic device.

The wearable article of claim 25, wherein the at least one element is one of an ultrasonic output device, an audio output device, a device including an electrical output, a needle, a glucose meter strip, a combination needle and glucose meter strip, a drug delivery device, a magnetic device, a light emission source, a light detection device, a radio frequency emission device, a radio frequency detection device, a combination radio frequency emission and radio frequency detection device, a sample collector, an audio receiver or microphone, a camera, a combination emission and detection device, a drug delivery iontophoresis, a thermal transfer device, a temperature sensor, a combination thermal transfer and drug delivery device, a blood pressure sensing device, a combination thermal transfer and blood pressure sensing device, a laser Doppler measurement device, and a pressure sensor.

27. The wearable article of claim 26, wherein the at least one element is a contact element configured to interface directly with the skin.

28. The wearable article of claim 26, wherein the at least one element is a non-contact element.

29. The wearable article of claim 26, wherein the at least one element is interchangeable with other elements different from the at least one element.

30. The wearable article of claim 25, wherein the communication device is one of a watch, a laptop, a tablet, and a cell phone.
