Abstract

According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a method and an electronic device for receiving a user input by the electronic device is provided. The method includes receiving a first touch input on a touchscreen, detecting at least part of a region contacted by the first touch input on the touchscreen, a region adjacent to the contacted region, and a position adjacent to the contacted region, after receiving the first touch input, and displaying a user interface on the touchscreen at least partially based on a relative relation between the region contacted by the first touch input, and at least one of the adjacent region and the adjacent position.

Claims

1. A method for receiving a user input by an electronic device, the method comprising:

receiving a first touch input on a touchscreen;

detecting at least part of a region contacted by the first touch input on the touchscreen, a region adjacent to the contacted region, and a position adjacent to the contacted region, after receiving the first touch input; and

displaying a user interface on the touchscreen at least partially based on a relative relation between the region contacted by the first touch input, and at least one of the adjacent region and the adjacent position.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein displaying the user interface on the touchscreen comprises displaying the user interface on a portion of an overall displayable region of the touchscreen, wherein a position of the portion is determined at least partially based on the relative relation.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein displaying the user interface on the touchscreen comprises:

determining a position of the first touch input as an origin;

setting a coordinate axis on the touchscreen with respect to the origin; and

displaying the user interface based on a quadrant where the adjacent region is positioned, wherein the quadrant is among quadrants created by the coordinate axis.

The method of claim 3, wherein displaying the user interface based on the quadrant where the adjacent region is positioned comprises when the adjacent region is positioned in a second quadrant or a third quadrant of the quadrants, displaying the user interface on a left portion of an overall displayable region of the touchscreen.

The method of claim 3, wherein displaying the user interface based on the quadrant where the adjacent region is positioned comprises when the adjacent region is positioned in a first quadrant or a fourth quadrant of the quadrants, displaying the user interface on a right portion of an overall displayable region of the touchscreen.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein displaying the user interface on the touchscreen includes displaying a user input region.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein displaying the user input region includes displaying the user input region at a position on the touchscreen determined at least partially based on the relative relation.

8. A method for receiving a user input by an electronic device, the method comprising:

detecting at least one of a region and a position adjacent to where a portion of a user'"'"'s body or an object is positioned adjacent to a touchscreen;

detecting a touch input on the touchscreen by the user'"'"'s body portion or the object after detecting at least one of the adjacent region and the adjacent position; and

displaying a user interface on the touchscreen at least partially based on a relative relation between the touch input, and the at least one of the adjacent region and the adjacent position.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein displaying the user interface on the touchscreen comprises displaying the user interface on a portion of an overall displayable region of the touchscreen, wherein a position of the portion is determined at least partially based on the relative relation.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein displaying the user interface on the touchscreen comprises:

determining an origin as a position which exhibits a minimum variation in capacitance in the adjacent region;

setting a coordinate axis on the touchscreen with respect to the origin; and

displaying the user interface based on quadrants created by the coordinate axis or a position of the touch input.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein displaying the user interface based on quadrants created by the coordinate axis or the position of the touch input comprises, when the adjacent region is positioned in a second quadrant or a third quadrant of the quadrants, displaying the user interface on a left portion of an overall displayable region of the touchscreen.

The method of claim 10, wherein displaying the user interface based on quadrants created by the coordinate axis or the position of the touch input comprises when the adjacent region is positioned in a first quadrant or a fourth quadrant of the quadrants, displaying the user interface on a right portion of an overall displayable region of the touchscreen.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein displaying the user interface on the touchscreen comprises displaying a user input region.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein displaying the user input region includes displaying the user input region at a position on the touchscreen determined at least partially based on the relative relation.

15. An electronic device for receiving a user input, the electronic device comprising:

a display, including a touchscreen, that receives a first touch input on the touchscreen; and

a processor configured to;

detect at least one of a region contacted by the first touch input on the touchscreen, a region adjacent to the contacted region, and a position adjacent to the contacted region, after receiving the first touch input, and

control the display to display a user interface on the touchscreen at least partially based on a relative relation between the region contacted by the first touch input, and at least one of the adjacent region and the adjacent position.

The electronic device of claim 15, wherein the processor is further configured to control the display to display the user interface on a portion of an overall displayable region of the touchscreen, wherein a position of the portion is determined at least partially based on the relative relation.

17. The electronic device of claim 15, wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine a position of the first touch input as an origin,

set a coordinate axis on the touchscreen with respect to the origin, and

control the display to display the user interface based on a quadrant where the adjacent region is positioned, wherein the quadrant is one among quadrants created by the coordinate axis.

18. The electronic device of claim 17, wherein when the adjacent region is positioned in a second quadrant or a third quadrant of the quadrants, the processor further controls the display to display the user interface on a left portion of an overall displayable region of the touchscreen.

19. The electronic device of claim 17, wherein when the adjacent region is positioned in a first quadrant or a fourth quadrant of the quadrants, the processor further controls the display to display the user interface on a right portion of an overall displayable region of the touchscreen.

The electronic device of claim 15, wherein the display is further configured to display the user interface by displaying a user input region, wherein the processor is further configured to control the display to display the user input region at a position on the touchscreen determined at least partially based on the relative relation.
