Abstract

A method for a diagnostic headline system using simple linguistic terms is described. The method comprises receiving historical and current performance data for a component of a system. An anomaly is determined in the current performance data by comparing the current performance data and the historical performance data for the component. The anomaly is determined whether or not it indicates an error in the system. The cause of the anomaly is determined. Steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly are recommended. A display is formatted of the current performance data, the error, and the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving historical and current performance data for a component of a system;

determining an anomaly in the current performance data by;

comparing the current performance data and the historical performance data for the component;

determining that the anomaly indicates an error in the system;

determining a cause of the anomaly;

determining recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly, wherein determining recommended steps comprises transforming current performance data into natural language; and

formatting for display on a user interface the current performance data, the error, and the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the anomaly in the component'"'"'s performance further comprises:

receiving peer performance data for an analogous component in a peer system;

comparing the current performance data for the component and the peer performance data for the analogous component.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving input regarding the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly;

adjusting a ranking of the recommended steps according to the input.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein determining that the anomaly indicates an error in the system further comprises:

receiving input regarding a context of the current performance data;

adjusting a ranking of the recommended steps according to the context.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

ranking the recommended steps based on likelihood of accuracy.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein determining an anomaly in the component'"'"'s performance further comprises:

comparing prior recommended steps in a database to the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

implementing in the system the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly.

8. A computer configured to access a storage device, the computer comprising:

a processor; and

a non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium storing computer-readable instructions that when executed by the processor cause the computer to perform;

receiving historical and current performance data for a component of a system;

determining an anomaly in the current performance data by;

comparing the current performance data and the historical performance data for the component;

determining that the anomaly indicates an error in the system;

determining a cause of the anomaly;

determining recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly, wherein determining recommended steps comprises transforming current performance data into natural language; and

formatting for display the current performance data, the error, and the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly.

9. The computer of claim 8, wherein determining the anomaly in the component'"'"'s performance further comprises:

receiving peer performance data for an analogous component in a peer system;

comparing the current performance data for the component and the peer performance data for the analogous component.

10. The computer of claim 8, further comprising:

receiving input regarding the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly;

adjusting a ranking of the recommended steps according to the input.

11. The computer of claim 8, wherein determining that the anomaly indicates an error in the system further comprises:

receiving input regarding a context of the current performance data;

adjusting a ranking of the recommended steps according to the context.

12. The computer of claim 8, further comprising:

ranking the recommended steps based on likelihood of accuracy.

13. The computer of claim 8, wherein determining an anomaly in the component'"'"'s performance further comprises:

comparing prior recommended steps in a database to the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly.

14. The computer of claim 8, further comprising:

implementing in the system the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly.

15. A computer program product comprising:

a computer-readable storage medium having computer-readable program code embodied therewith, the computer-readable program code comprising;

computer-readable program code configured to receive historical and current performance data for a component of a system;

computer-readable program code configured to determine an anomaly in the current performance data by;

computer-readable program code configured to compare the current performance data and the historical performance data for the component;

computer-readable program code configured to determine that the anomaly indicates an error in the system;

computer-readable program code configured to determine a cause of the anomaly;

computer-readable program code configured to determine recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly, wherein determining recommended steps comprises transforming current performance data into natural language; and

computer-readable program code configured to format for display the current performance data, the error, and the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly.

16. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein computer-readable program code configured to determine an anomaly in the current performance further comprises:

computer-readable program code configured to receive peer performance data for an analogous component in a peer system;

computer-readable program code configured to compare the current performance data for the component and the peer performance data for the analogous component.

17. The computer program product of claim 15, further comprising:

computer-readable program code configured to receive input regarding the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly;

computer-readable program code configured to adjust a ranking of the recommended steps according to the input.

18. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein computer-readable program code configured to determine that the anomaly indicates an error in the system further comprises:

computer-readable program code configured to receive input regarding a context of the current performance data;

computer-readable program code configured to adjusting a ranking of the recommended steps according to the context.

19. The computer program product of claim 15, further comprising:

computer-readable program code configured to rank the recommended steps based on likelihood of accuracy.

20. The computer program product of claim 15, further comprising:

computer-readable program code configured to implement in the system the recommended steps for addressing the cause of the anomaly.
