Abstract

A mobile personal emergency response system includes a security fob configured to be manually activated, and wirelessly transmit an emergency alert signal when activated. A mobile device contains an emergency application, which is responsive to the emergency alert signal. Upon receipt of the emergency alert signal, the emergency application obtains user profile data corresponding to the mobile device, obtains GPS location coordinates of the mobile device, and wirelessly transmits the user profile data and GPS location coordinates to a dispatch center. A location database is accessed by the dispatch center and provides an identity of a selected public service answering point corresponding to the received GPS location coordinates. A dispatcher of the dispatch center contacts the selected public service answering point and provides the user profile data and a location of the mobile device.

Claims

1. A mobile personal emergency response system, comprising:

a security fob configured to be manually activated by a user, and wirelessly transmitting an emergency alert signal when activated;

a mobile device having an emergency application contained therein, the emergency application responsive to the emergency alert signal, wherein upon receipt of the emergency alert signal, the emergency application;

obtains user profile data that identifies the user, corresponding to the mobile device;

obtains GPS location coordinates of the mobile device; and

wirelessly transmits the user profile data and GPS location coordinates to a dispatch center;

a location database accessed by the dispatch center, and configured to provide an identity of a selected public service answering point that is closest to the received GPS location coordinates; and

wherein a dispatcher of the dispatch center contacts the selected public service answering point and provides the user profile data and a location of the mobile device.

2. The system according to claim 1, wherein the emergency application obtains the user profile data from memory storage local to the mobile device.

3. The system according to claim 1, wherein the emergency application obtains the user profile data from a remote server.

4. The system according to claim 1, wherein the security fob includes a transmitter that transmits the emergency alert signal using BLUETOOTH protocol.

5. The system according to claim 1, further including two or more dispatch centers, wherein the emergency application transmits the user profile data and GPS location coordinates corresponding to the respective mobile device, to a selected one of the two or more dispatch centers.

6. The system according to claim 1, wherein the dispatcher of the dispatch center provides the public service answering point with a physical location of the mobile device, a physical address of the mobile device, or the GPS location coordinates corresponding to the mobile device.

The system according to claim 1, wherein the dispatch center, without human intervention, automatically provides the public service answering point with a physical location of the mobile device, a physical address of the mobile device, or the GPS location coordinates corresponding to the mobile device.

8. The system according to claim 1, wherein when the emergency application responds to the emergency signal, the emergency application enables a GPS location tracking feature of the mobile device.

9. A mobile personal emergency response method, comprising:

manually activating, by a user, a security fob;

wirelessly transmitting, by the security fob, an emergency alert signal;

receiving, by an emergency application contained in the mobile device, the emergency alert signal;

in response to receiving the emergency alert signal, the emergency application;

obtaining user profile data that identifies the user, corresponding to the mobile device;

obtaining GPS location coordinates of the mobile device; and

wirelessly transmitting the user profile data and GPS location coordinates to a dispatch center;

the dispatch center configured to;

receive the user profile data and GPS location coordinates;

query a location database;

receive from the location database, an identity of a selected public service answering point that is closest to the received GPS location coordinates; and

contact the selected public service answering point and provide the user profile data and a location of the mobile device.

10. The method according to claim 9, wherein the emergency application obtains the user profile data from memory storage local to the mobile device.

11. The method according to claim 9, wherein the emergency application obtains the user profile data from a remote server.

12. The method according to claim 9, wherein the security fob transmits the emergency alert signal using BLUETOOTH protocol.

13. The method according to claim 9, wherein the emergency application transmits the user profile data and GPS location coordinates corresponding to the respective mobile device, to a selected one of a plurality of dispatch centers.

14. The method according to claim 9, wherein a dispatcher of the dispatch center provides the public service answering point with a physical location of the mobile device, a physical address of the mobile device, or the GPS location coordinates corresponding to the mobile device.

The method according to claim 9, wherein the dispatch center, without human intervention, automatically provides the public service answering point with a physical location of the mobile device, a physical address of the mobile device, or the GPS location coordinates corresponding to the mobile device.

16. The method according to claim 9, wherein when the emergency application responds to the emergency signal, the emergency application enables a GPS location tracking feature of the mobile device.

17. A mobile personal emergency response system, comprising:

a security fob configured to be manually activated by a user, the security fob upon activation, wirelessly transmitting an emergency alert signal;

a dispatch center configured to access a server via a user interface, the server have a processor;

a mobile device having an emergency application contained therein, the emergency application responsive to the emergency alert signal, wherein upon receipt of the emergency alert signal by the processor of the server, the emergency application;

obtains, from the server, user profile data that identifies the user, corresponding to the mobile device;

obtains, from the mobile device, GPS location coordinates of the mobile device; and

wirelessly transmits the user profile data and GPS location coordinates to a location processor at the dispatch center;

a location database accessed by the location processor in the dispatch center, and configured to provide to the location processor, an identity of a public service answering point closest to the received GPS location coordinates; and

wherein a dispatcher of the dispatch center contacts the corresponding public service answering point and provides the user profile data and a location of the mobile device.
