Abstract

A mobile terminal capable of controlling a vehicle and a method for controlling the same are provided. The mobile terminal includes a main body having a front surface, a side surface, and a rear surface, a cover configured to cover at least a portion of the front surface, the side surface, and the rear surface of the main body, a vehicle authenticating unit configured to supply power to the main body and the vehicle authenticating unit, and a control unit configured to control the power supply unit to supply power to the vehicle authenticating unit, wherein, upon receiving power from the power supply unit, the vehicle authenticating unit performs the authentication information to the vehicle to perform authentication with respect to the vehicle.

Claims

1. A mobile terminal comprising:

a main body having a front side, a lateral side, and a rear side;

a cover configured to cover at least a portion of the front side, the lateral side, or the rear side of the main body;

a vehicle authenticating unit;

a power supply unit configured to supply power to the main body and the vehicle authenticating unit; and

a control unit configured to cause the power supply unit to supply power to the vehicle authenticating unit;

wherein the vehicle authenticating unit is configured to transmit authentication information to a vehicle to perform authentication after receiving power from the power supply unit.

2. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the cover comprises an auxiliary power supply unit configured to supply power to the vehicle authenticating unit.

3. The mobile terminal of claim 2, wherein the control unit is configured to cause the auxiliary power supply unit to supply power to the vehicle authenticating unit when power of the power supply unit is less than or equal to a threshold amount.

4. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the cover comprises an opening defining a receiving space configured to receive a physical key.

5. The mobile terminal of claim 1, wherein the vehicle authenticating unit is disposed at a side of the cover facing the main body.

6. A mobile terminal comprising:

a vehicle authenticating unit configured to transmit information to a vehicle;

a short range communication unit configured to communicate with the vehicle; and

a control unit configured to;

cause the vehicle authenticating unit to transmit first authentication information to the vehicle in response to a preset wireless signal received from the vehicle;

cause the short range communication unit to transmit second authentication information to the vehicle after the transmission of the first authentication information to the vehicle; and

execute a vehicle function related to the vehicle when authentication with respect to the vehicle is successful based on the first authentication information and the second authentication information.

7. The mobile terminal of claim 6, wherein the control unit is further configured to limit execution of the vehicle function when authentication based on at least the first authentication information or the second authentication information is unsuccessful.

The mobile terminal of claim 6, wherein the control unit is further configured to execute an additional authentication function to allow input of third authentication information when authentication based on at least the first authentication information or the second authentication information is unsuccessful.

9. The mobile terminal of claim 8, wherein the third authentication information is at least biometric information, password information, or code information.

10. The mobile terminal of claim 8, further comprising:

a near-field communication (NFC) unit configured to perform NFC communication;

wherein the control unit is further configured to cause the NFC unit to transmit the third authentication information to the vehicle.

11. The mobile terminal of claim 8, wherein the control unit is further configured to limit execution of the vehicle function when the additional authentication function is not executed.

12. A mobile terminal comprising:

a vehicle authenticating unit configured to transmit information to a vehicle;

a short range communication unit configured to perform short range communication with the vehicle; and

a control unit configured to;

cause the vehicle authenticating unit to transmit first authentication information to the vehicle in response to a preset wireless signal received from the vehicle;

cause the short range communication unit to transmit second authentication information to the vehicle after the transmission of the first authentication information;

determine one of a plurality of security levels for operating the vehicle based on a preset condition, wherein the plurality of security levels correspond to different vehicle operation authorizations; and

control the vehicle according to the determined security level when authentication with respect to the vehicle based on the first authentication information and the second authentication information is successful.

13. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the preset condition is related to at least identification information of the mobile terminal or location information of the mobile terminal.

14. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the control unit is further configured to:

control the vehicle according to a first security level when a location of the mobile terminal corresponds to a previously stored location; and

control the vehicle according to a second security level when the location of the mobile terminal does not correspond to the previously stored location.

15. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the control unit is further configured to cause output of notification information for changing the determined security level when a user request for executing a function not available to the determined security level is received.

16. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the control unit is further configured to provide vehicle authorization information to an external device, wherein the vehicle authorization information corresponds to the determined security level or a security level lower than the determined security level.

17. The mobile terminal of claim 16, wherein the control unit is further configured to provide the vehicle authorization information to the external terminal when security information received from a user and security information received from the external device match.

18. A watch type terminal comprising:

a main body comprising a display;

a band configured to be detachably coupled to the main body;

a vehicle authenticating unit disposed at the band;

a power supply configured to supply power to the main body and the vehicle authenticating unit; and

a control unit configured to cause the power supply to supply power to the vehicle authenticating unit;

wherein the vehicle authenticating unit is configured to transmit first authentication information to a vehicle to perform authentication after receiving power from the power supply unit.

19. The watch type terminal of claim 18, further comprising a plurality of connection terminals configured to provide power from the power supply unit.

20. The watch type terminal of claim 18, wherein the control unit is further configured to cause the vehicle authenticating unit to transmit the first authentication information to the vehicle for key authentication when power is supplied to the vehicle authenticating unit.

21. The watch type terminal of claim 20, wherein the control unit is further configured to cause transmission of second authentication information to the vehicle for dual authentication, wherein the second authentication information is different from the first authentication information.

22. A watch type terminal comprising:

a short range communication unit configured to communicate with a mobile terminal and a vehicle; and

a control unit configured to;

cause transmission of security information to the mobile terminal;

receive authority information related to authority to operate the vehicle from the mobile terminal; and

control the vehicle based on the received authority information.

23. The watch type terminal of claim 22, wherein the control unit is further configured to:

determine one of a plurality of security levels for operating the vehicle based on the received authority information; and

control the vehicle according to the determined security level.

24. The watch type terminal of claim 23, wherein the control unit is further configured to cause transmission of notification information to the mobile terminal when a user request for executing a function not available to the determined security level is received.

25. The watch type terminal of claim 24, wherein the control unit is further configured to cause the transmission of the notification information only when the user request is received at least a threshold number of times.

26. The watch type terminal of claim 24, wherein the function corresponds to starting the vehicle or a payment function.

27. The watch type terminal of claim 24, wherein the control unit is further configured to cause the mobile terminal to execute the function.

28. The watch type terminal of claim 22, further comprising a display, wherein the control unit is further configured to cause the display to display a graphic object related to the received authority information.

29. The watch type terminal of claim 28, wherein the control unit is further configured to cause the display to display a distance between the vehicle and the watch type terminal when the vehicle is sensed within a preset radius.

30. The watch type terminal of claim 29, wherein the control unit is further configured to cause the display to terminate display of the distance when the distance is less than or equal to a threshold distance.
