Abstract

A vehicle computing device may receive, from a nearby vehicle, a packet with a safety control instruction having a security access code for a vehicle. A processor may be determine whether the security access code is valid and verify a security level associated with the security access code in order to process the safety control instruction.

9. A vehicle computing device comprising:

a transceiver;

a processor operatively coupled to the transceiver;

wherein the processor is configured to receive, from a nearby vehicle via the transceiver, a packet with a safety control instruction having a security access code for a vehicle; and

wherein the processor is configured to determine whether the security access code is valid and to verify a security level associated with the security access code in order to process the safety control instruction.

10. The vehicle computing device of claim 9, wherein the safety control instruction triggers an alarm or alert in the vehicle.

11. The vehicle computing device of claim 9 further comprising:

the transceiver is configured to receive authorization from a mobile unit to authorize the process of the safety control instruction.

12. The vehicle computing device of claim 9 further comprising:

the processor is configured to transmit, when the security access code is invalid via the transceiver, an alert to a mobile unit or a law enforcement system.

13. The vehicle computing device of claim 12, wherein the invalid security access code indicates that the vehicle was stolen.

14. The vehicle computing device of claim 9 further comprising:

circuitry configured to connect to the internet over a cellular data network; and

wherein the packet is an IP packet received over the cellular data network.

15. A method performed by a vehicle computing device, the method comprising:

receiving, from a nearby vehicle by a processor via a transceiver, a packet with a safety control instruction having a security access code for a vehicle;

determining, by the processor, whether the security access code is valid; and

verifying, by the processor, a security level associated with the security access code in order to process the safety control instruction.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the safety control instruction triggers an alarm or alert in the vehicle.

17. The method of claim 15 further comprising:

receiving, by the transceiver, authorization from a mobile unit to authorize the processing of the safety control instruction.

18. The method of claim 15 further comprising:

transmitting, when the security access code is invalid by the processor via the transceiver, an alert to a mobile unit or a law enforcement system.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the invalid security access code indicates that the vehicle was stolen.

20. The method of claim 15 further comprising:

connecting, by the vehicle computing device, to the internet over a cellular data network; and

wherein the packet is an IP packet received over the cellular data network.
