Abstract
A sheath used to protect a medical device has one or more strips formed over a portion thereof. The medical device is a scaffold crimped to a balloon and mounted to a catheter. The sheath is two-piece, including a protecting and constraining sheath part. The strips facilitate removal of the constraining sheath from the scaffold in manner that reduces instances of damage caused by improper removal of the sheath from the medical device.

15. A method of removing a sheath from a scaffold mounted on a catheter having a distal end, the sheath including a protecting sheath disposed over the scaffold and a constraining sheath disposed over the protecting sheath and scaffold, comprising:
-
pushing or pulling the constraining sheath over the protecting sheath and towards distally the catheter distal end; wherein a distal end of the constraining sheath abuts a distal end of the protecting sheath, thereby causing a strip of the connecting sheath to deflect away from the protecting sheath. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17)

20. A method, comprising:
-
using a catheter including a scaffold crimped to a balloon and a sheath disposed over the scaffold, the sheath including a protecting portion disposed over the scaffold and a constraining portion disposed over the scaffold and protecting portion, wherein a distal end of the constraining portion is proximal of the protecting portion distal end; and removing the constraining portion from the scaffold including causing a strip of the constraining portion to fold up as the constraining portion distal end abuts the protecting portion distal end.

21. A method of making a medical device, comprising:
-
using a crimp head, crimping a scaffold to a balloon catheter to produce a crimped scaffold; placing a first sheath over the crimped scaffold to reduce recoil of the crimped scaffold from the balloon; and replacing the first sheath with a second sheath at about ½
hour after the placing of the first sheath over the crimped scaffold;wherein the second sheath comprises a constraining portion and a protecting portion, each of which having at least one slot; and wherein the crimped scaffold is configured for being placed within a body only after the second sheath is removed from the crimped scaffold.
