Abstract

A framework for visualization based on healthcare guidelines is described herein. In accordance with one aspect, a decision graph is generated based on healthcare guidelines. The nodes of the decision graph are populated with patient records. The framework may perform data analytics on patient records associated with at least one of the nodes to generate results, and further generate a visualization of the results.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a non-transitory memory device for storing computer readable program code; and

a processor in communication with the memory device, the processor being operative with the computer readable program code to perform operations including

generating a decision graph based on healthcare guidelines,

populating nodes of the decision graph with patient records,

automatically traversing the decision graph along a path determined by attribute values associated with a current patient record,

performing data analytics on patient records associated with one or more nodes along the path to generate results, and

generating a visualization of the results.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the visualization comprises a comparison of the current patient record with the patient records associated with the one or more nodes.

3. The system of claim 1 wherein the visualization comprises a comparison of the current patient record with one or more of the associated patient records that are most similar to the current patient record.

4. The system of claim 1 wherein the processor is operative with the computer readable program code to extract and present patient data from one or more of the associated patient records that are similar to the current patient record.

5. The system of claim 4 wherein the patient data comprises administered treatment, intervention, outcome or a combination thereof.

6. A non-transitory computer readable medium embodying a program of instructions executable by machine to perform operations, the operations comprising:

generating a decision graph based on healthcare guidelines;

populating nodes of the decision graph with patient records;

performing data analytics on patient records associated with at least one of the nodes to generate results; and

generating a visualization of the results.

7. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 wherein the instructions are executable by the machine to populate the nodes of the decision graph in substantially real time while one or more users are accessing the decision graph.

8. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 wherein the instructions are executable by the machine to populate the nodes of the decision graph by

pushing a patient record from a current node to a next level node of the decision graph in response to the patient record providing an outcome represented by a branch from the current node to the next level node, and

associating the patient record with the next level node.

9. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 wherein the instructions are executable by the machine to parse the patient record to determine the test outcome.

10. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 wherein the instructions are executable by the machine to present a user interface that enables a user to input the test outcome.

11. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 wherein the healthcare guidelines comprise appropriate use guidelines.

12. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 wherein the healthcare guidelines comprise a care process model.

13. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 wherein the instructions are executable by the machine to perform data analytics on the patient records by invoking a statistical tool, a clustering algorithm, a classification technique, a prediction method, a performance sensitivity analytical tool, or a combination thereof.

14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 wherein the visualization comprises a list, table or graph.

15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 wherein the visualization comprises a comparison of attribute values extracted from a first subset of the associated patient records with a second subset of the associated patient records.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 wherein the instructions are executable by the machine to enable a user to select the first and second sub sets.

17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 wherein the visualization comprises a comparison of attribute values extracted from a subset of the associated patient records with attribute values extracted from all the associated patient records.

18. A method, comprising:

generating a decision graph based on healthcare guidelines;

populating nodes of the decision graph with patient records;

automatically traversing the decision graph along a path determined by attribute values associated with a current patient record; and

generating a recommendation based on a final node of the path to support a healthcare decision.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein generating the decision graph comprises generating a decision tree.

20. The method of claim 18 wherein generating the recommendation comprises generating a recommendation to perform a therapy, drug prescription, surgery, further testing or imaging, wait and observe, or a combination thereof.
