Abstract

A method for automatically converting note-to-self to action reminders in an electronic device is provided. The method includes receiving an input comprising at least one word from a user of the electronic device, analyzing an anaphora representation or a deictic representation for each of the at least one word, and generating a reminder based on a context from the anaphora representation or the deictic representation.

Claims

1. A method implemented in an electronic device, the method comprising:

receiving an input comprising at least one word from a user of the electronic device;

analyzing an anaphora representation or a deictic representation for each of the at least one word; and

generating a reminder based on a context from the anaphora representation or the deictic representation.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein analyzing the anaphora representation or the deictic representation for the each of the at least one word comprises:

analyzing the anaphora representation or the deictic representation based on at least one of temporal information, spatial information, participant information, purpose information, gender information, and cardinality information for the each of the at least one word.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein generating the reminder comprises:

converting the each of the at least one word to a canonical representation;

generating a plurality of semantic representations from the canonical representation; and

determining the context based on the plurality of semantic representations.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein determining the context based on the plurality of semantic representations comprises:

determining a degree of match between at least two contexts for the input based on the analyzed anaphora representation or the deictic representation and pre-determined parameter; and

determining the context by merging an attribute value included in the each of the at least two contexts.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein determining the context by merging an attribute value included in the each of the at least two contexts comprises:

performing at least one of appending, overriding, and negating for the attribute value included in the each of the at least two contexts.

6. An electronic device configured to:

receive an input comprising at least one word from a user of the electronic device;

analyze an anaphora representation or a deictic representation for each of the at least one word; and

generate a reminder based on a context from the anaphora representation or the deictic representation.

The electronic device of claim 6, wherein the electronic device is configured to analyze the anaphora representation or the deictic representation based on at least one of temporal information, spatial information, participant information, purpose information, gender information, and cardinality information for the each of the at least one word.

8. The electronic device of claim 6, wherein the electronic device is configured to:

convert the each of the at least one word to a canonical representation;

generate a plurality of semantic representations from the canonical representation; and

determine the context based on the plurality of semantic representations.

9. The electronic device of claim 8, wherein the electronic device is configured to:

determine a degree of match between at least two contexts for the input based on the analyzed anaphora representation or the deictic representation and pre-determined parameter; and

determine the context by merging an attribute value included in the each of the at least two contexts.

10. The electronic device of claim 9, wherein the electronic device is configured to:

perform at least one of appending, overriding, and negating for the attribute value included in the each of the at least two contexts.
