Abstract

A glide controller includes a glide solver and a glide control interface. The glide solver generates at least one vehicular glide schedule including a plurality of discretized targets. The solver generates a plurality of vehicular glide control outputs corresponding to the plurality of discretized targets. The glide control interface outputs the plurality of vehicular glide control outputs, intended to result in a performance adjustment of a vehicle.

Claims

1. In a computerized, route-aware vehicular glide controller, a method for dynamically and efficiently controlling vehicular speed and acceleration, the method comprising;

processing at least one vehicular glide schedule, the at least one glide schedule including a plurality of discretized targets; and

generating a plurality of vehicular glide control outputs corresponding to the plurality of discretized targets, intended to result in a performance adjustment of a vehicle.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one vehicular glide schedule is generated by a glide scheduler residing in the vehicle.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one vehicular glide schedule is generated by a remote glide scheduler residing in an external server.

The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one vehicular glide schedule includes at least one of an acceleration schedule, an engine revolutions-per-minute (rpm) schedule, a motor rpm schedule, a gear selection schedule, a power train selection schedule, a braking schedule and a regeneration schedule.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the vehicular glide control signals includes at least one of a throttle control signal, a brake control signal, a regenerative signal, a de-acceleration control signal, a transmission control signal and a power-train selection control signal.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the performance adjustment includes mechanical actuation by the vehicular glide controller.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein a user receives the plurality of discretized targets and wherein the performance adjustment includes mechanical actuation by the user, thereby enabling the user to optimally control the vehicle.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the adjustment includes sending at least one glide control message to the vehicle.

The method of claim 8 wherein the glide control message is compatible with at least one of an UART protocol, an USART protocol, an SPI protocol, an I2C protocol, an EIA-232 protocol, a CANbus protocol, a CANopen protocol, a LIN protocol, a wireless communications protocol and an optical communications protocol.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the wireless communications protocol includes at least one of a cellular 3G protocol, a cellular 4G protocol, a cellular 4G LTE protocol, a WiFi protocol, a Bluetooth protocol and a ZigBee protocol.

11. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving at least one schedule message including the at least one vehicular glide schedule.

The method of claim 11 wherein the at least one schedule message is compatible with at least one of a UART protocol, a USART protocol, an I2C protocol, an EIA-232 protocol, a CANbus protocol, a CANopen protocol, a LIN protocol, a wireless communications protocol and an optical communications protocol.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the wireless communications protocol includes at least one of a cellular 3G protocol, a cellular 4G protocol, a cellular 4G LTE protocol, a WiFi protocol, a Bluetooth protocol and a ZigBee protocol.

14. A computerized, route-aware, glide controller configured to dynamically and efficiently control vehicular speed and acceleration, the glide controller comprising:

a glide solver configured to;

generate at least one vehicular glide schedule, wherein the at least one glide schedule includes a plurality of discretized targets; and

generate a plurality of vehicular glide control outputs corresponding to the plurality of discretized targets; and

a glide control interface configured to output the plurality of vehicular glide control outputs, intended to result in a performance adjustment of a vehicle.

15. The glide controller of claim 14 wherein the plurality of vehicular glide control outputs is sent to at least one of an electronic vehicle control unit and a vehicular control interface.

16. The glide controller of claim 14 wherein the adjustment includes sending at least one glide control message to the vehicle.

17. The glide controller of claim 14 wherein the at least one vehicular glide schedule includes at least one of an acceleration schedule, an engine revolutions-per-minute (rpm) schedule, a motor rpm schedule, a gear selection schedule, a power train selection schedule, a braking schedule and a regeneration schedule.

18. The glide controller of claim 14 wherein the vehicular glide control signals includes at least one of a throttle control signal, a brake control signal, a regenerative signal, a de-acceleration control signal, a transmission control signal and a power-train selection control signal.

19. The glide controller of claim 14 wherein the performance adjustment includes mechanical actuation by the vehicular glide controller.

20. The glide controller of claim 14 wherein a user receives the plurality of discretized targets and wherein the performance adjustment includes mechanical actuation by the user, thereby enabling the user to optimally control the vehicle.

21. A computerized, route-aware glide controller configured to dynamically and efficiently control vehicular speed and acceleration, the glide controller configured to:

receive at least one vehicular glide schedule, wherein the at least one glide schedule includes a plurality of discretized targets;

generate a plurality of vehicular glide control outputs corresponding to the plurality of discretized targets; and

output the plurality of vehicular glide control outputs, intended to result in a performance adjustment of a vehicle.

22. The glide controller of claim 21 wherein the plurality of vehicular glide control outputs is sent to at least one of an electronic vehicle control unit and a vehicular control interface.

23. The glide controller of claim 21 wherein the performance adjustment includes mechanical actuation by the vehicular glide controller.

24. The glide controller of claim 21 wherein a user receives the plurality of discretized targets and wherein the user causes the mechanical actuation, thereby enabling the user to optimally control the vehicle.
