1. A portable and wireless NFC payment object reader wherein the NFC payment object reader can benefit from intermittent tuning, and wherein the tuning process can be different depending on whether the NFC payment object reader is stationary or in motion, the NFC payment object reader comprising:
- an accelerometer;
an NFC subsystem including an antenna; and
a tuning subsystem configured to tune the antenna, the tuning subsystem configured to receive an input from the accelerometer and based on the input from the accelerometer, initiate one of;
a first tuning process when the input from the accelerometer indicates that the NFC payment object reader is stationary, anda second tuning process when the input from the accelerometer indicates that the NFC payment object reader is in motion.
