SHROUD CARTRIDGE HAVING A CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE SEAL SEGMENT
First Claim
1. A segmented turbine shroud for radially encasing a turbine in a gas turbine engine, the shroud comprising:
- a carrier comprising a portion defining a pin-receiving carrier bore;
a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) seal segment comprising an arcuate flange having a surface facing the turbine and a portion defining a pin-receiving seal segment bore;
an elongated pin extending through said carrier bore and said seal segment bore,wherein said elongated pin comprises a lateral cross-sectional dimension of at least three-eighths inches; and
wherein said CMC seal segment portion defining a pin-receiving seal segment bore is radially spaced from said arcuate flange by a spacing flange extending radially outward from said arcuate flange to thereby effect receipt within the seal segment bore of said elongated pin.

Abstract
A shroud for radially encasing a turbine in a gas turbine engine is provided. The shroud comprises a carrier which defines a pin-receiving carrier bore, and a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) seal segment comprising an arcuate flange with a surface facing the turbine and a part that defines a pin-receiving seal segment bore. The seal segment bore is radially spaced from the arcuate flange by a spacing flange which extends radially outward from the arcuate flange to effect receipt within the seal segment bore of an elongated pin. The elongated pin extends through the carrier bore and the seal segment bore, and the elongated pin has a lateral cross-sectional dimension of at least three-eighths of an inch.

16. A segmented turbine shroud for radially encasing a turbine in a gas turbine engine, said shroud comprising a plurality of cartridges, one or more of said cartridges comprising:
-
a carrier segment comprising an axial flange and opposing lateral flanges extending radially inward from said axial flange, each lateral flange being generally planar and perpendicular to the rotational axis of the turbine, the opposing flanges defining a plurality of pairs of opposing pin-receiving carrier bores; a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) seal segment comprising an arcuate flange having a surface facing the turbine and a plurality of radial flanges extending radially outward from said arcuate flange, each of said radial flanges defining a pin-receiving seal segment bore at the distal end thereof; and a plurality of elongated pins having a lateral cross-sectional dimension of at least three-eighths inches, wherein said seal segment bores are radially spaced from said arcuate flange a distance sufficient to define a bore comprising a lateral cross-sectional dimension large enough to receive one of said elongated pins therein, and wherein said CMC seal segment is carried by said carrier segment by extending each of said elongated pins through a pair of opposing carrier bores and at least one of said seal segment bores. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18, 19, 20)
