Abstract

A system including a wired or wireless automation device of an automation system that detects threats within a secured geographic area, a processor of the automation device that measures performance parameters of the automation device and reports the measured performance parameters to a control panel of the automation system and a processor of the control panel that compares the measured performance parameters of the automation device with one or more criteria, detects a potential failure of the automation device and presents recommendations for ameliorating the potential failure to an authorized human user of the automation system.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a wired or wireless automation device of an automation system that detects threats within a secured geographic area;

a processor of the automation device that measures performance parameters of the automation device and reports the measured performance parameters to a control panel of the automation system; and

a processor of the control panel that compares the measured performance parameters of the automation device with one or more criteria, detects a potential failure of the automation device and presents recommendations for ameliorating the potential failure to an authorized human user of the automation system.

2. The system as in claim 1 wherein the one or more criteria further comprise technical specifications of the automation device.

3. The system as in claim 2 further comprising a processor of the automation device that measures an environmental parameter of the automation device.

The system as in claim 3 further comprising a processor that compares the measured environmental parameter of the automation device with a corresponding parameter from the technical specifications of the automation device and notifies the human user when the measured environmental parameter exceeds the corresponding parameter of the technical specifications.

5. The system as in claim 4 wherein the measured environmental parameter further comprises one of temperature air quality and humidity.

6. The system as in claim 5 wherein the presented recommendation for ameliorating the potential failure further comprises a message suggesting that additional insulation could avoid operation of the automation device outside of the technical specification.

7. The system as in claim 1 wherein the automation device further comprises one of a door opener, a magnetic lock, a status input device, a camera, a passive infrared (PIR) detector, a vibration sensor and a digital video recorder (DVR).

8. The system as in claim 7 wherein the measured performance parameter further comprises one of an opening and a closing time of the door.

9. The system as in claim 8 wherein the recommendation for ameliorating the potential failure further comprises a service recommendation that the door be serviced immediately when the opening or closing time exceeds the technical specifications.

10. A system comprising:

a plurality of wired or wireless automation devices located within a secured geographic area at least some of which detect threats within the secured geographic area;

an automation system that monitors the at least some or wired or wireless automation devices for threats within the secured area and reports detected threats to a central monitoring station;

a processor of the automation device that measures performance parameters of the automation devices and reports the measured performance parameters to a control panel of the automation system; and

a processor of the control panel that compares the measured performance parameters of each of the automation devices with one or more criteria, detects a potential failure of the automation device and presents notices regarding the potential failure to an authorized human user of the automation system.

11. The system as in claim 10 wherein the automation devices further comprises one or more of a door opener, a magnetic lock, a status input device, a camera, a passive infrared (PIR) detector, a vibration sensor and a digital video recorder (DVR).

12. The system as in claim 11 wherein the measured performance parameter further comprising a response time of an actuator.

13. The system as in claim 12 wherein the measured response time further comprises one of an opening and a closing time of the door.

14. The system as in claim 13 wherein the notice further comprises a service recommendation that the door be serviced immediately when the opening or closing time exceeds a threshold value.

15. The system as in claim 14 wherein the automation device further comprises a door opener and the threshold value further comprises a corresponding entry in a technical specification of the door opener.

16. The system as in claim 10 further comprising a processor of the automation device that measures an environmental parameter of the automation device.

17. The system as in claim 16 further comprising a processor that compares the measured environmental parameter of the automation device with a corresponding parameter from a technical specification of the automation device and notifies the human user when the measured environmental parameter exceeds the corresponding parameter of the technical specifications.

18. The system as in claim 17 wherein the measured environmental parameter further comprises temperature.

19. The system as in claim 18 further comprises a message presented to the authorized user suggesting that additional insulation could avoid operation of the automation device outside of one or more temperature limits of the technical specification.

20. A system comprising:

a plurality of sensor devices located that detect threats within the secured geographic area;

at least one wired or wireless automation device that controls access to the secured geographic area;

an automation system that monitors the sensor devices for threats within the secured area and reports detected threats to a central monitoring station;

a processor of the automation device that measures performance parameters of the at least one automation device and reports the measured performance parameters to a control panel of the automation system; and

a processor of the control panel that compares the measured performance parameters of the automation devices with an operating specification of the at least one automation device, detects a potential failure of the automation device and presents a notice regarding the potential failure to an authorized human user of the automation system.

21. The system as in claim 20 further comprising a sensor that detects an environmental parameter of a sensor device external of the secured area.

22. The system as in claim 20 further comprising a map with highlighted notices adjacent the automation device.

23. The system as in claim 22 further comprising highlighting the automation device on the map.

24. The system as in claim 20 further comprising highlighting a pair of automation device of the plurality of automation devices that are to be swapped.
