Abstract

A computer program product is provided for extending a clustered file system. The computer program product comprises a computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith. The program instructions are executable by a processor to cause the processor to define functions required by external services implemented on top of a clustered file system, identify at least one function that is not provided by the clustered file system, and extend the clustered file system to provide the at least one function.

Claims

1. A computer program product for extending a clustered file system, the computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith, the program instructions executable by a processor to cause the processor to:

define, by the processor, functions required by external services implemented on top of a clustered file system;

from the defined functions, identify, by the processor, at least one function that is not provided by the clustered file system; and

extend, by the processor, the clustered file system to provide the at least one function.

2. The computer program product as recited in claim 1, wherein the external services include a Network File System (NFS) service.

3. The computer program product as recited in claim 1, wherein the external services include a Server Message Block (SMB) service.

4. The computer program product as recited in claim 1, wherein the external services include an OpenStack service.

5. The computer program product as recited in claim 1, wherein the at least one function enables at least one of the external services to export the clustered file system.

6. A computer program product for providing a callback to an external service, the computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith, the program instructions executable by a processor to cause the processor to:

define, by the processor, a transition phase in a clustered file system;

identify, by the processor, an occurrence of the transition phase; and

in response to identifying the occurrence of the transition phase, provide, by the processor, a callback to an external service.

7. The computer program product as recited in claim 6, wherein the external service includes one of a Network File System (NFS) service, a Server Message Block (SMB) service, and an OpenStack service.

8. The computer program product as recited in claim 6, wherein the transition phase includes at least one of a point in time and point in function at which the clustered file system responds to an event.

9. The computer program product as recited in claim 8, wherein the transition phase includes an initialization process completing to a specific point.

10. The computer program product as recited in claim 8, wherein the transition phase includes a specific point of a startup process.

11. The computer program product as recited in claim 8, wherein the transition phase includes a shutdown process completing to a specific point.

12. The computer program product as recited in claim 8, wherein the transition phase includes a loss of quorum.

13. The computer program product as recited in claim 8, wherein the transition phase includes a point during a recovery process just before a resource is released.

14. The computer program product as recited in claim 13, wherein the resource is released by a failed node that was holding the resource.

15. A system, comprising:

a processor and logic integrated with and/or executable by the processor, the logic being configured to;

define a transition phase in a clustered file system;

identify an occurrence of the transition phase; and

in response to identifying the occurrence of the transition phase, provide a callback to an external service.

16. The system as recited in claim 15, wherein the external service includes one of a Network File System (NFS) service, a Server Message Block (SMB) service, and an OpenStack service.

17. The system as recited in claim 15, wherein the transition phase includes at least one of a point in time and point in function at which the clustered file system responds to an event.

18. The system as recited in claim 17, wherein the transition phase includes an initialization process completing to a specific point.

19. The system as recited in claim 17, wherein the transition phase includes a specific point of a startup process.

20. The system as recited in claim 17, wherein the transition phase includes a shutdown process completing to a specific point.
