Abstract
Described is a technology by which magnetic flux is used to provide backup power. A transformer has a line power source controllably coupled to a first input winding, and secondary power source controllably coupled to a second input winding. A controller monitors the line power and switches to the secondary power source if the line power voltage drops too low, or uses the secondary power source to augment the line power source if the line power current gets too high. Also described is incrementally transitioning from the secondary power source back to the line power source.

21. A load transfer system for switching a load in a transformer having a first input winding corresponding to a primary side and a second input winding corresponding a secondary side, the load transfer system comprising:

34. A method for controlling load transfer in a transformer having a first input winding supplied with a first source of power and corresponding to a primary side, a second input winding corresponding to a secondary side, and an output winding, the method comprising:

monitoring a duty cycle associated with a second source of power selectively coupled to the second input winding; detecting a power condition of a load based on the monitored duty cycle; determining that the power condition is outside of an acceptable value range of a current protection threshold or a voltage protection threshold; and incident to the power condition being outside of the acceptable value range of the current protection threshold or the voltage protection threshold, signaling switching of power being supplied from a first source of power provided to the first input winding to the second source of power supplied to the second input winding. - View Dependent Claims (35, 36, 37)

One or more computer-storage media comprising computer-executable instructions for controlling load transfer in a transformer having a first input winding corresponding to a primary side and a second input winding corresponding a secondary side, the computer-executable instructions causing one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

monitoring a duty cycle associated with the second input winding to determine a voltage and a current experienced at the first input winding; determining that the voltage is less than a voltage protection threshold or that the current exceeds a current protection threshold; and incident to the voltage being less than the voltage protection threshold or the current exceeding the current protection threshold, decoupling a first supply from the first input winding of the primary side and coupling a second supply to the second input winding of the secondary side, wherein the coupled second supply induces voltage on the primary side of the transformer. - View Dependent Claims (39, 40)
