Abstract

A regenerative drive device and a method for configuring the DC link of a regenerative drive device are disclosed. The multilevel regenerative drive device may include an inverter having a plurality of power components and a converter having a plurality of power components. The multilevel regenerative drive device may also include a direct current (DC) link bridging the inverter and the converter, the DC link including a capacitor, an inverter neutral point, and a converter neutral point independent of the inverter neutral point. Alternatively, the inverter neutral point and the converter neutral point may be connected.

Claims

1. A multilevel regenerative drive device (20), comprising:

an inverter (22) having a plurality of power components (25);

a converter (21) having a plurality of power components (25);

a direct current (DC) link (23) bridging the inverter (22) and the converter (21), the DC link (23) comprising;

a capacitor (43);

an inverter neutral point (42); and

a converter neutral point (41) independent of the inverter neutral point (42).

2. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 1, wherein at least one member of the plurality of power components (25) of the inverter (22) and at least one member of the plurality of power components (25) of the converter (21) is an insular-gate bipolar transistor.

3. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 1, wherein the plurality of power components (55) of the inverter (21) and the plurality of power components (55) of the converter (21) are arranged having a T-type topology (57).

4. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 1, wherein the plurality of power components (25) of the inverter (22) and the plurality of power components (25) of the converter (21) are arranged having a neutral-point-clamped topology (27).

5. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 1, wherein the plurality of power components (65, 68) of the inverter (22) and the plurality of power components (65, 68) of the converter (22) are arranged having an advanced T-type neutral point clamped topology (67).

6. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 5, wherein at least one member of the plurality of power components (65, 68) of the inverter (22) and at least one member of the plurality of power components (65, 68) of the converter (21) is a reverse- blocking insular-gate bipolar transistor (68).

7. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 1, wherein at least one of the inverter (22) and the converter (21) operates in a unipolar pulse width modulation mode.

9. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 1, wherein the multilevel elevator drive device (20) is a multilevel regenerative elevator drive device.

10. A multilevel regenerative drive device (20), comprising:

an inverter (22) having a plurality of power components (25);

a converter (21) having a plurality of power components (25);

a direct current (DC) link (23) bridging the inverter (22) and the converter (21), the DC link (23) comprising;

a capacitor (43);

a neutral point (49), the neutral point (49) shared by the inverter (22) and the converter (21).

11. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 10, wherein at least one member of the plurality of power components (25) of the inverter (22) and at least one member of the plurality of power components (25) of the converter (21) is an insular-gate bipolar transistor.

12. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 10, wherein the plurality of power components (55) of the inverter (22) and the plurality of power components (55) of the converter (21) are arranged having a T-type topology (57).

13. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 10, wherein the plurality of power components (25) of the inverter (22) and the plurality of power components (25) of the converter (21) are arranged having a neutral-point-clamped topology (27).

14. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 10, wherein the plurality of power components (65, 68) of the inverter (22) and the plurality of power components (65, 68) of the converter (21) are arranged having an advanced T-type neutral point clamped topology (67).

15. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 14, wherein at least one member of the plurality of power components (65, 68) of the inverter (22) and at least one member of the plurality of power components (65, 68) of the converter (21) is a reverse-blocking insular-gate bipolar transistor (68).

18. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 10, wherein the multilevel elevator drive device (20) is a multilevel regenerative elevator drive device.

16. The multilevel regenerative drive device (20) of claim 910, wherein one of the inverter (22) and the converted (21) operates in a bipolar pulse-width modulation mode and an other of the inverter (22) and the converter (21) operates in a unipolar pulse-width modulation mode.

A method (70) for configuring a DC link (23) for a multilevel regenerative drive device (20), the multilevel regenerative elevator drive device (20) having an inverter (22) having a plurality of power components (25) and a converter (21) having a plurality of power components (25), the method (70) comprising:

determining a neutral point (42) associated with the inverter (22); and

determining a neutral point (41) associated with the converter (21), the neutral point (41) of the converter (21) being independent of the neutral point (42) associated with the inverter (22).

20. The method (70) of claim 19, further comprising connecting the neutral point (42) associated with the inverter (22) to the neutral point (41) associated with the converter (21).

21. The method (70) of claim 19, wherein at least one of the inverter (22) or the converter (21) operates in a unipolar pulse-width modulation mode.

22. The method (70) of claim 20, the inverter (22) may operate in a bipolar pulse-width modulation mode and the converter (21) may operate in a unipolar pulse-width modulation mode.
