Abstract

The invention relates to the field of medicine, in particular to the field of veterinary medicine. The invention specifically relates to muscarinic antagonists (including long acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMAs)) for the treatment of airway disease, such as pulmonary disease, preferably recurrent airway obstruction (RAO), summer pasture associated obstructive pulmonary disease (SPAOPD), and inflammatory airway disease (IAD) in animals, preferably equines such as horses.

Claims

1. A composition comprising a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the cation thereof and a glucocorticoid.

2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the glucocorticoid comprises ciclesonide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

3. The composition of claim 2, further comprising a beta-2 adrenoreceptor agonist.

4. The composition of claim 3, wherein the beta-2 adrenoreceptor agonist comprises a long-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (LABA) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

5. The composition of claim 1, further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.

6. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the LAMA is a compound of the general formula:

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the LAMA is a compound of the formula;

8. The composition of claim 6, wherein the concentration of LAMA ranges between 0.2 to 7% m/V of the total composition.

9. the composition of claim 6, wherein the concentration of LAMA ranges between 0.3 to 6.0% m/V of the total composition.

10. The composition of claim 6, wherein the concentration of LAMA ranges between 0.4 to 5% m/V of the total composition.

11. The composition of claim 1, wherein the glucocorticoid comprises budesonide or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

12. The composition of claim 1, wherein the composition is in the form of a liquid formulation.

13. The composition of claim 12, wherein the liquid formation comprises a solution for inhalation.

14. The composition of claim 12, wherein the liquid formulation is a partially ethanolic formulation.

15. An inhaler device comprising:

a container including the composition of claim 1; and

an adaptor configured for equine use.

16. The inhaler device of claim 15, further comprising a pressurized metered dose inhaler or an aqueous/ethanolic droplet inhaler.

17. The inhaler device of claim 15, further comprising a RESPIMAT®

inhaler or another inhalation device using the RESPIMAT®

aerosol-generating technology.

18. The inhaler device of claim 15, wherein the inhaler device is configured to administer a dose of the composition of 100 μ

g to 3000 μ

g ex inhaler, a dose of the composition of 200 μ

g to 2000 μ

g ex inhaler, a dose of the composition of 200 μ
