1. A reel seat to be used with a fishing pole, comprising:

  • a main body portion defining a first end and a second end, the main body portion comprising;

    a longitudinal hollow cavity extending from the first end of the main body portion to the second end of the main body portion configured to receive a handle portion of a fishing pole;

    a securing portion including a first insert portion configured to receive a first portion of a fishing reel arm and a second insert portion configured to receive a second portion of a fishing reel arm; and

    a recessed area extending around at least some of an exterior portion of the main body portion of the reel seat, the recessed area including a depth and an outer periphery defining a recessed area shape; and

    a gripping member comprising a material with different characteristics than a material forming the main body portion adjacent the recessed area, wherein an outer periphery of the gripping member corresponds to the recessed area shape;

    wherein the gripping member is secured to the main body portion such that the gripping member is secured within the recessed area.
