Abstract

Trip is analyzed from a population of drivers in order to determine one or more indicators of one or more driving styles. The trip data may include sensor information obtained from one or more sensor devices which are present in a vehicle of each driver of the population. A driving style is determined for the driver during a monitored trip by analyzing sensor information obtained from one or more sensor devices of the driver during the trip for at least one of the indicators of the one or more driving styles.

Claims

1. A method for evaluating a driver of a transport service during a trip, the method being implemented by one or more processors and comprising:

analyzing trip data from a population of drivers to determine one or more indicators of one or more driving styles, including an aggressive driving style, wherein the trip data includes obtaining sensor information from one or more sensor devices which are present in a vehicle of each driver of the population; and

making a determination of a driving style for the driver during a monitored trip by analyzing sensor information obtained from one or more sensor devices of the driver during the trip for at least one of the indicators of the one or more driving styles.

The method of claim 1, wherein analyzing trip data from the population of drivers includes determining one or more patterns of actions for aggressive driving, and wherein analyzing the sensor information obtained from one or more sensor devices of the driver includes identifying the pattern of actions from the analyzed sensor information.

The method of claim 2, further comprising developing a model of aggressive driving based on the one or more patterns, and wherein analyzing the sensor information obtained from one or more sensor devices of the driver includes using the model to determine when the driver is driving aggressively.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein developing the model includes obtaining a confirmation of the determination from input provided or data obtained from by a passenger of the vehicle.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the input corresponds to a rating provided by the passenger for the driver.

6. The method of claim 3, wherein developing the model is specific to a subset of the population of drivers who drive within a city or geographic region of the driver.

The method of claim 1, wherein analyzing trip data from the population of drivers includes processing sensor information from a set of vehicles driven by a subset of drivers in the population just before the subset of drivers are involved in a corresponding accident, and then analyzing the sensor data to identify indicators shared by multiple vehicles just before the respective vehicles are involved in the corresponding accident.

The method of claim 1, wherein analyzing trip data from the population of drivers includes identifying a subset of in the population who have a relevant driving incident which is indicative of aggressive driving, and using sensor data from vehicles driven by the subset of drivers to determine one or more indicators of aggressive driving.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein analyzing trip data includes analyzing sensor information corresponding to one or more of an accelerometer, altimeter, global positioning system (GPS) resource, and/or gyroscope of individual drivers of the population.

The method of claim 1, further comprising obtaining the sensor information from a computing device within a vehicle of the driver, the sensor information including sensor information provided by one or more of an accelerometer, altimeter, global positioning system (GPS) resource, and/or gyroscope.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein obtaining sensor information includes communicating with a mobile computing device of either the driver or a passenger of the vehicle to obtain the sensor information.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein obtaining the sensor information includes obtaining the sensor information from an On Board Diagnostic (“

OBD”

) device which is resident in the vehicle.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising interpreting the sensor information obtained as part of the trip data from the population of drivers as one or more of (i) lane change, (ii) braking event, (iii) traffic light event, (iv) speeding, and/or (v) near collisions.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

in response to determining that the driving style of the driver is aggressive, implementing one or more remedial actions on the driver.

15. A method for analyzing driving, the method being implemented by one or more processors and comprising:

obtaining a set of ground truth data which reflect a first set of indicators indicating an aggressive driving style;

determining a model for the aggressive driving style;

using the model to determine one or more characterizations of the driving style of individual drivers; and

confirming the one or more characterizations based on information determined about individual drivers or a respective trip of the individual drivers.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein confirming the one or more characterizations includes determining a rating of a passenger of the vehicle.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the one or more characterizations identify an aggressive driving style, and wherein confirming the one or more characterizations includes confirming the model when one of the individual drivers is involved in a collision.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the sensor information includes one or more of an accelerometer, altimeter, global positioning system (GPS) resource, and/or gyroscope

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the ground truth data includes sensor information from vehicles just before the vehicles were in collisions.

20. A computer system comprising:

a memory resource which store a set of instructions;

one or more processors which execute the set of instructions to;

analyze trip data from a population of drivers to determine one or more indicators of one or more driving styles, including an aggressive driving style, wherein the trip data includes sensor information obtained from one or more sensor devices which are present in a vehicle of each driver of the population; and

determine a driving style for the driver during a monitored trip by analyzing sensor information obtained from one or more sensor devices of the driver during the trip for at least one of the indicators of the one or more driving styles.
