Abstract

A system for removing molten metal from a vessel is disclosed. The system includes a pump and a refractory casing that houses the pump. As the pump operates it moves molten metal upward through an uptake section of the casing until it reaches an outlet wherein it exits the vessel. The outlet may be attached to a launder. Another system uses a wall to divide a cavity of the chamber into two portions. The wall has an opening and a pump pumps molten metal from a first portion into a second portion until the level in the second portion reaches an outlet and exits the vessel.

Claims

1. A system pump for moving molten metal out of a vessel having a first section and a second section, the system including:

(a) a motor, a super structure that supports the motor, a drive shaft having a first end connected to the motor and a second end connected to a rotor, and a discharge;

(b) a bracket on the superstructure, the bracket configured to attach to a mounting flange, wherein the mounting flange is attached to the vessel, such that when the bracket is connected to the mounting flange, the discharge aligns with an opening that leads from the first section to the second section;

(c) a vessel outlet formed at an angle of greater than 30 degrees to the pump discharge.

2. The system of claim 1 that further includes a launder in fluid communication with the vessel outlet.

3. The system of claim 2 wherein the launder has a bottom surface and the outlet has a bottom surface that aligns with the launder bottom surface.

4. The system of claim 1 wherein the super structure is a steel platform.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein the vessel outlet is formed at an angle of greater than 45 degrees to the pump discharge.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein the vessel outlet is formed at an angle of greater than 75 degrees to the pump discharge.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein the vessel outlet is formed at an angle of 90 degrees to the pump discharge.

The system of claim 2 wherein the vessel includes a front side with one or more front flanges on the front side, and the launder has a first end proximal the device and a second end distal the device, the first end of the launder having one or more launder flanges, wherein each of the one or more launder flanges aligns with one of the one or more front flanges on the front side of the device for connecting the launder to the device.

9. The system of claim 1 wherein the pump super structure includes a second side and a second mounting flange on the second side of the super structure, the second mounting flange configured to connecting to and position the pump in the vessel.

10. The system of claim 1 wherein the pump is a circulation pump.

11. The system of claim 1 wherein the pump is a gas-release pump.

12. The system of claim 1 wherein the vessel has a bottom surface and the opening is above the bottom surface.

13. The system of claim 2 wherein the launder has a top to retain heat.

14. The system of claim 1 wherein the second section has a top to retain heat.

15. The system of claim 2 wherein the launder has a top to retain heat and the second section has a top to retain heat.

16. The system of claim 2 wherein the vessel has a top surface and the launder is supported by the top surface.

17. The system of claim 1 wherein the outlet is straight.

18. The system of claim 1 wherein there is a dividing wall between the first section and second section of the vessel.

19. The system of claim 1 that is formed of refractory material.

20. The system of claim 1 wherein the rotor is two-staged, having a first portion that drives molten metal into the pump chamber, and a second portion that pushes molten metal outward against the pump chamber wall and out of the pump discharge.
