Abstract

A system and method is disclosed for migrating media content between different devices based on user location. A display screen is configured to detect a presence of a user at the display screen. In response to the detecting the user, media content being provided for the user at a different display screen remote from the first display screen is determined. The determined media content is then provided for broadcast at the display screen starting at a content location associated with the different display screen.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

detecting a presence of a user at a first media broadcasting device;

in response to the detecting and without user interaction, identifying a user profile associated with the user;

determining media content being provided for the user at a second media broadcasting device remote from the first media broadcasting device based on a content identifier stored in connection with the user profile;

identifying, within the determined media content, a time marker associated with the second media broadcasting device based on the user profile; and

providing the determined media content for broadcast at the first media broadcasting device starting at the time marker.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein determining media content being provided for the user and identifying the time marker comprises:

receiving, based on the user profile, the content identifier and the time marker of the media content.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

registering the first media broadcasting device with the user profile before the presence of the user is detected,

wherein the determined media content is provided at the first media broadcasting device based on a media data stream provided by one or more media servers remote from the first media broadcasting device.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein detecting the presence of the user comprises:

receiving bio-identification information associated with the user at the first media broadcasting device,

wherein the user profile is identified based on the received bio-identification information.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein detecting the presence of the user comprises:

establishing, without user intervention, a wireless connection between the first media broadcasting device and a mobile device located in a geographic area associated with the first media broadcasting device; and

receiving a user credential associated with the user of the mobile device,

wherein the user profile is identified based on the received user credential.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the first media broadcasting device is currently broadcasting media content when the presence of the user is detected, the method further comprising:

providing an option to choose between the currently broadcasting media content and the determined media content;

receiving a selection of one of the currently broadcasting media content and the determined media content; and

providing only the selected one of the currently broadcasting media content and the determined media content at the first media broadcasting device.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 6, wherein the determined media content is provided in a first portion of a display screen of the first media broadcasting device while the currently broadcast media content is provided in a second portion of the display screen.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 6, wherein the selection is based on a user gesture detected by the first media broadcasting device, without physical interaction by the user with the first media broadcasting device.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the first media broadcasting device is currently broadcasting media content when the presence of the user is detected, the method further comprising:

in response to the detecting and without user interaction, determining that the user is not authorized to consume the currently broadcasting media content, and stopping the broadcast of the currently broadcasting media content.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining, without user interaction, that one or more other users currently associated with consuming media at the first media broadcasting device are not authorized to consume the determined media content; and

receiving authorization for the one or more other users to consume the determined media content before the determined media content is provided at the first media broadcasting device.

11. A system, comprising:

one or more computing devices configured to;

receive an indication that a user has moved from a first media broadcasting device to a second media broadcasting device;

in response to receiving the indication, identify a user profile associated with the user;

determine media content being provided for the user at a first media broadcasting device and a time marker, within the determined media content, associated with the first broadcasting device based on a content identifier stored in connection with the user profile; and

provide the determined media content for broadcast to the second media broadcasting device starting at the time marker.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein receiving the indication that the user has moved from a first media broadcasting device to the second media broadcasting device comprises:

determining, based on the user profile, when the indication is received, that the user is currently associated with consuming media at the first media broadcasting device.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein receiving the indication that the user has moved from a first media broadcasting device to the second media broadcasting device comprises:

receiving bio-identification information associated with the user at the second media broadcasting device, wherein the user profile is identified based on the received bio-identification information.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein receiving the indication that the user has moved from a first media broadcasting device to the second media broadcasting device comprises:

receiving, from the second media broadcasting device, a user credential associated with the user of the mobile device, wherein the user profile is identified based on the received user credential.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein one or more computing devices are further configured to:

register the first media broadcasting device and the second media broadcasting device with the user profile before receiving the indication that the user has moved from a first media broadcasting device to the second media broadcasting device;

wherein the determined media content is provided to the second media broadcasting device based on a media data stream provided by one or more media servers remote from the first and second media broadcasting devices.

16. The system of claim 11, wherein one or more computing devices are further configured to:

stop the determined media content from being provided at a first media broadcasting device in connection with providing the determined media content for broadcast to the second media broadcasting device.

17. The system claim 11, wherein restricted media content is being provided to the second media broadcasting device when the indication is received, the one or more computing devices further being configured to:

determine that the user is not authorized to consume the restricted media content; and

stop the broadcast of the restricted media content at the second media broadcasting device in response to determining that the user is not authorized.

18. The system of claim 11, wherein the one or more computing devices are further configured to:

determine that one or more other users currently associated with consuming media at the second media broadcasting device are not authorized to consume the determined media content; and

receive authorization for the one or more other users to consume the determined media content before the determined media content is provided to the second media broadcasting device.

19. A machine-readable media including instructions that, when executed, perform a method comprising:

detecting a presence of a user at a first media broadcasting device;

identifying a user profile associated with the user when the presence of the user is detected;

determining that the user has moved to the first media broadcasting device from a second media broadcasting device;

in response to the determining and without user interaction, determining media content being provided for the user at the second media broadcasting device based on a content identifier stored in connection with the user profile;

determining, within the determined media content, a time marker associated with the second media broadcasting device based on the user profile; and

providing the determined media content for broadcast at the first media broadcasting device starting at the time marker.

20. The machine-readable media of claim 19, wherein the method further comprises:

registering the first media broadcasting device with a user profile before the presence of the user is detected;

wherein the determined media content is provided based on a media data stream from one or more media servers remote from the first media broadcasting device.
