Abstract

An apparatus and method for reducing power consumption of a portable terminal are provided. More particularly, an apparatus and method for reducing power consumption generated in an idle state in order to solve a power consumption problem in a portable terminal are provided. The apparatus includes a state determination unit which is configured independently from an application processor for controlling applications and which wakes up when entering an idle mode to allow the application processor to sleep, and thereafter determines a state of the portable terminal, and if it is determined that the portable terminal escapes from the idle mode, allows the application processor to wake up.

Claims

1. An electronic device comprising:

a memory;

a first processor; and

a second processor configured to;

control to operate, while the first processor is in a sleep state, a sensor of the electronic device that obtains motion information of the electronic device,

control to determine that the electronic device is moving or stationary based on the motion information, and

control to write the motion information in the memory,

wherein the first processor is configured to read the written motion information from the memory based on the first processor being awakened.

2. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the sensor comprises one of an acceleration sensor and a gyro sensor.

3. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the first processor is further configured to, after transitioning from the sleep state to a wake-up state, control to analyze the motion information to provide activity information for a user of the electronic device.

4. The electronic device of claim 3, wherein the first processor is further configured to control to perform an operation corresponding to the activity information.

5. An electronic device comprising:

a memory;

a first processor; and

a second processor configured to;

control to operate a sensor of the electronic device that obtains motion information of the electronic device,

control to write the motion information in the memory, and

control to determine that the electronic device is moving or stationary based on the motion information,

wherein the first processor is configured to read motion information from the memory based on the first processor being awakened, and the motion information read by the first processor is written in the memory while the first processor is in the sleep state.

6. The electronic device of claim 5, wherein the sensor comprises one of an acceleration sensor and a gyro sensor.

7. The electronic device of claim 5, wherein the first processor is further configured to, after transitioning from the sleep state to a wake-up state, control to analyze the motion information to provide activity information for a user of the electronic device.

8. The electronic device of claim 7, wherein the first processor is further configured to control to perform an operation corresponding to the activity information.

9. An electronic device comprising:

a memory;

a first processor configured to;

control to operate, while a second processor of the electronic device is in a sleep state, a sensor of the electronic device that obtains motion information of the electronic device, and

control to write the motion information in the memory; and

the second processor configured to;

control to read the written motion information from the memory based on the second processor being awakened, and

control to generate activity information for a user of the electronic device based on the motion information read by the second processor.

10. The electronic device of claim 9, wherein the sensor comprises one of an acceleration sensor and a gyro sensor.

11. The electronic device of claim 9, wherein the second processor is further configured to, after transitioning from the sleep state to a wake-up state, control to analyze the motion information to provide activity information for a user of the electronic device.

12. The electronic device of claim 11, wherein the second processor is further configured to control to perform an operation corresponding to the activity information.

13. A method of an electronic device, the method comprising:

controlling, at a first processor of the electronic device, to operate, while a second processor of the electronic device is in a sleep state, a sensor of the electronic device that obtains motion information of the electronic device;

controlling, at the first processor, to write the motion information in a memory;

controlling, at the second processor, to read the written motion information based on the second processor being awakened; and

controlling, at the second processor, to generate activity information for a user of the electronic device based on the motion information read by the second processor.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the sensor comprises one of an acceleration sensor and a gyro sensor.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein further comprising:

controlling, at the second processor, to analyze the motion information to provide activity information for a user of the electronic device after the second processor transitions from the sleep state to a wake-up state.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein further comprising:

controlling, at the second processor, to perform an operation corresponding to the activity information.
