Abstract

Disclosed herein is an optical film including a prism part including a plurality of prism patterns arranged at an incline relative to a transmission axis of a reflective polarizing part, in order to reduce a Moiré phenomenon. In detail, the optical film includes a multilayer-structured reflective polarizing part configured to reflect light from a first polarization axis and transmit light through a second polarization axis perpendicular to the first polarization axis, and a prism part including a plurality of prism patterns arranged at an incline relative to the second polarization axis.

Claims

1. An optical film comprising:

a multilayer configured to reflect light from a first polarization axis and transmit light through a second polarization axis perpendicular to the first polarization axis; and

a prism comprising a plurality of prism patterns arranged at an incline relative to the second polarization axis.

2. The optical film according to claim 1, wherein the prism patterns are arranged so as to be inclined at an angle of 30°

to 60°

relative to the second polarization axis.

3. The optical film according to claim 1, wherein the multilayer is laminated with a plurality of material layers, of which different indices of refraction do not match each other along the first polarization axis but match each other along the second polarization axis.

4. The optical film according to claim 1, wherein:

each of the prism patterns has a polygonal prism shape; and

sides of the respective prism patterns are in contact with the reflective polarizing part.

5. A liquid crystal display device comprising:

the optical film according to claim 1;

a first polarizing plate disposed on the optical film; and

a liquid crystal panel disposed on the first polarizing plate, the liquid crystal panel comprising a pair of substrates facing and bonded to each other and a liquid crystal layer injected therebetween.

6. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 5, wherein a transmission axis of the first polarizing plate coincides with the second polarization axis passing through the reflective polarizing part.

7. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 6, further comprising a second polarizing plate disposed on the liquid crystal panel,

wherein a transmission axis of the second polarizing plate is perpendicular to the transmission axis of the first polarizing plate.

8. An optical laminated film comprising:

a reflective polarizing part having a first polarizing axis;

a prism sheet overlying the reflective polarizing part, the prism sheet including a plurality of prism patterns extending longitudinal and arranged in rows, the rows being at a selected incline angle relative to the first polarization axis; and

a first polarizing plate overlying the prism sheet that transmits light through a second polarization axis.

9. The optical laminated film of claim 8 wherein the prism sheet is integral with the reflective polarizing part as a single piece and the selected incline angle is established when the sheet is formed.

10. The optical laminated film of claim 8 wherein the prism sheet is separate from the reflective polarizing part and the selected incline angle is established when the optical laminated film is formed.
