Abstract

A wireless device that includes a wireless communication unit compatible with at least a protocol within IEEE 802.11 for establishing a wireless local area network is herein disclosed and enabled. To connect the wireless device to a wireless local area network, the wireless device may first establish a Bluetooth connection with a mobile information apparatus, such as smart phone or information pad. Subsequently, the wireless device receives a password or authentication information from the mobile information apparatus for accessing the wireless local area network. Thereafter, the wireless device is connected for receiving or transmitting digital content over the wireless local area network. Additionally, the wireless device may further be connected to the Internet for accessing a service operated over the Internet via the wireless local area network. The wireless device may further receive identification or authentication information automatically from the mobile information apparatus for accessing the service over Internet.

Claims

1. A wireless communication method for a wireless device to establish a wireless local area network communication, the wireless device includes one or more communication units, the wireless communication method comprising:

(1) facilitating, via the one or more communication units of the wireless device, a device discovery operation for the wireless device to be device discoverable by a client;

(2) establishing, via the one or more communication units of the wireless device, a wireless communication link between the wireless device and a client that has device discovered the wireless device in (1), and the wireless communication link being compatible, at least partly, with at least a protocol within Bluetooth standards;

(3) receiving, via the one or more communication units of the wireless device and over the established wireless communication link in (2), security information or authentication information from the client, the security information or the authentication information includes one or more of a user name, a password, an ID number, a PIN, an IP address, a security key, a biometric, a fingerprint, or a voice, individually or in any combination; and

(4) establishing a wireless local area network communication employing the security information or the authentication information received in (3), the wireless local area network communication being compatible, at least partly, with at least one protocol within IEEE 802.11 wireless standards for establishing a wireless local area network connection; and

wherein at least one communication unit of the one or more communication units is a wireless communication unit that is compatible, at least partly, with at least one protocol within Bluetooth standards, and the establishing of the wireless communication link in (2) is via the wireless communication unit that is compatible, at least partly, with at least a protocol within Bluetooth standards; and

wherein at least one communication unit of the one or more communication units is a wireless communication unit that is compatible, at least partly, with at least one protocol within IEEE 802.11 wireless standards, and the establishing of the wireless local area network communication in (4) being via the wireless communication unit that is compatible, at least partly, with at least one protocol within IEEE 802.11 wireless standards.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein facilitating a device discovery operation in (1) for the wireless device to be device discoverable by the client is via the wireless communication unit that is compatible, at least partly, with at least a protocol within Bluetooth standards;

and the method further comprises receiving, via the wireless communication unit that is compatible, at least partly, with at least a protocol within Bluetooth standards, a communication request or a service request from the client.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein facilitating a device discovery operation in (1) for the wireless device to be device discoverable by the client is based on at least one of the following, individually or in any combination:

(a) a wired communication directly between the wireless device and the client;

or

(b) a local area network communication between the wireless device and the client.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein facilitating, a device discovery operation in (1) for the wireless device to be device discoverable by the client is based on a short range close proximity wireless communication.

The method according to claim 1, wherein subsequent to establishing the wireless local area network communication in (4), the method further comprises establishing a connection with a server operated over the Internet for receiving digital content, from the server over the Internet, wherein the digital content is for output or playing at the wireless device.

The method according to claim 1, wherein, subsequent to establishing the wireless local area network communication, the method further comprises receiving digital content from the client and over the established wireless local area network communication in (4), wherein the digital content is for output or playing at the wireless device.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the wireless device is at least one of an audio device, a speaker, a projection device, a display device, a television, a controller box connected to a television, a printer, or a digital imaging device, individually or in any combination;

and the client is at least one of a smart phone, an Internet-Phone, a touch sensitive screen phone, an Information-Pad, an Internet appliance, or an Internet-Pad, individually or in any combination.

8. A wireless device for establishing a wireless local area network (WLAN) communication, the wireless device comprising:

an antenna for transmitting radio frequency signals;

one or more wireless communication units;

at least a wireless communication unit of the one or more wireless communication units is a Bluetooth wireless communication unit that is compatible, at least partly, with at least one protocol within Bluetooth standards;

and at least a wireless communication unit of the one or more wireless communication units is a WLAN wireless communication unit that is compatible, at least partly, with at least one protocol within IEEE 802.11 wireless standards; and

wherein the wireless device is configured for;

(1) receiving, via the Bluetooth wireless communication unit, a communication request or a service request from a client of the wireless device;

(2) establishing, via the Bluetooth wireless communication unit, a wireless communication link between the client and the wireless device, the establishing of the wireless communication link being subsequent to having received the communication request or the service request in (1), and the wireless communication link is compatible, at least partly, with at least a protocol within Bluetooth standards;

(3) receiving, via the Bluetooth wireless communication unit and over the established wireless communication link in (2), security information or authentication information from the client, the security information or the authentication information includes one or more of a user name, a password, an ID number, a PIN, an IP address, a security key, a biometric, a fingerprint, or a voice, individually or in any combination; and

(4) establishing, via the WLAN wireless communication unit, a wireless local area network communication employing, at least in part, the security information or the authentication information received in (3), the wireless local area network communication is compatible, at least partly, with at least one protocol within IEEE 802.11 wireless standards for establishing a wireless local area network connection.

The wireless device according to claim 8, wherein the wireless device is part of a wireless product, and the wireless product further includes an attribute or identification information related to the wireless device, the attribute or identification information includes one or more of registration information, service information, security information, capability information, a code, an ID number, a brand, a model, or an address, individually or in any combination;

The wireless device according to claim 9, wherein the wireless product provides the client the attribute or identification information, the providing of the attribute or identification information being facilitated, at least in part, by the user, and wherein the receiving of the communication request or the service request in (1) is subsequent to having provided the attribute or the identification information to the client.

11. The wireless device according to claim 8, wherein the client is either a wireless information apparatus or an information apparatus that includes a client application installed;

and wherein the wireless information apparatus is at least one of a smart phone, an Internet-Phone, a touch sensitive screen phone, an Information-Pad, a digital camera, an Internet appliance, or an Internet-Pad, individually or in any combination.

The wireless device according to claim 8, wherein subsequent to establishing the wireless local area network communication in (4), the wireless device is further configured for establishing a connection with a server operated over the Internet for receiving instructions or digital content from the server.

The wireless device according to claim 8, wherein the wireless device is further configured for facilitating a wireless device discovery operation for the wireless device to be wireless device discoverable by the client, and wherein the wireless device discovery operation is based on at least one of the following, individually or in any combination:

(a) a short range close proximity wireless communication directly between the wireless device and the client;

or

(b) a wired communication directly between the wireless device and the client;

or

(c) a local area network communication between the wireless device and the client.

14. The wireless device according to claim 8, wherein the wireless device further includes an interface, the interface includes one or more of a display screen, a touch sensitive screen, a push button, a soft key, a keypad, or a switch, individually or in any combination;

and wherein the wireless device discovery operation is subsequent to having received, via the interface, at least an indication from the user for initiating the wireless device discovering operation.

The wireless device according to claim 8, wherein the wireless device is at least one of an audio device, a speaker, a projection device, a display device, a television, a controller box connected to a television, a printer, a digital imaging device, or a device with an image processor, individually or in any combination.
