Abstract

This invention prevents a collation database from becoming bulky and shortening the delay time needed from person detection to registration in the collation database. An information processing apparatus comprises an acquiring unit which acquires a video, a detecting unit which detects a whole body or a part of a person from at least one frame of the acquired video, a tracking unit which tracks the whole body or the part of the person detected, and a registering unit which registers, in a database, a feature amount extracted from the whole body or the part of the person tracked during a first period from a timing of a start of tracking of the whole body or the part of the person by the tracking unit to a timing before an end of the tracking by the tracking unit.

Claims

1. An information processing apparatus comprising:

an acquiring unit configured to acquire a video;

a detecting unit configured to detect a whole body or a part of a person from at least one frame of the acquired video;

a tracking unit configured to track the whole body or the part of the person detected; and

a registering unit configured to register, in a database, a feature amount extracted from the whole body or the part of the person tracked during a first period from a timing of a start of tracking of the whole body or the part of the person by the tracking unit to a timing before an end of the tracking by the tracking unit.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the registering unit registers, in the database, a feature amount extracted from the whole body or the part of the person tracked by the tracking unit during a second period after the end of the first period, and

the first period is shorter than the second period.

3. The apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the registering unit registers, in the database, a feature amount extracted from the whole body or the part of the person tracked by the tracking unit every time the second period has elapsed after the end of the first period.

4. The apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:

a classifying unit configured to classify whole bodies or parts of tracked persons into a plurality of predetermined groups; and

a selecting unit configured to select, from the whole bodies or the parts of the persons classified into the groups, whole bodies or parts of persons in a number not more than a first predetermined number for each group,

wherein the registering unit registers, in the database, feature amounts of the selected whole bodies or parts of the persons.

5. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the groups are directions of the whole bodies or parts of the persons.

6. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the selecting unit selects the whole bodies or parts of the persons in the number not more than the first predetermined number based on at least one of a size of the whole body or the part of the person, a blur, a closed eye, and an open mouth.

The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein the selecting unit selects, from the plurality of groups, groups in a number not more than a second predetermined number based on priorities, and selects the whole bodies or the parts of the persons in the number not more than the first predetermined number for each of the selected groups in the number not more than the second predetermined number, and

the priorities are set in advance for the plurality of groups.

8. The apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:

an input unit configured to input a query video; and

a collating unit configured to perform collation with the feature amount registered in the database based on a feature amount of a whole image or a partial image of a person in the input query video.

9. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the part of the person is one of a face of the person and a head of the person.

10. The apparatus according to claim 8, wherein the part of the person is a face of the person,

the registering unit registers a feature amount associated with a face organ in the database, and

the collating unit collates a feature amount concerning the face organ extracted from the query video with a feature amount concerning the face organ which is registered in the database.

11. A method of controlling an information processing apparatus, comprising:

acquiring a video;

detecting a whole body or a part of a person from at least one frame of the acquired video;

tracking the whole body or the part of the person detected; and

registering, in a database, a feature amount extracted from the whole body or the part of the person tracked during a first period from a timing of a start of tracking of the whole body and the part of the person to a timing before an end of the tracking.

12. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a computer program which causes a computer to executes steps of a method of controlling an information processing apparatus, the method comprising:

acquiring a video;

detecting a whole body or a part of a person from at least one frame of the acquired video;

tracking the whole body or the part of the person detected; and

registering, in a database, a feature amount extracted from the whole body or the part of the person tracked during a first period from a timing of a start of tracking of the whole body and the part of the person to a timing before an end of the tracking.
