Abstract

A joint tape to be applied to wallboard is provided and includes a base substrate having opposing sides. In certain embodiments, a first adhesive layer is applied to one of the sides of the base substrate and a second adhesive layer is applied to the first adhesive layer, where the first adhesive layer is different than the second adhesive layer. In certain other embodiments, two different adhesives are used in a single adhesive layer. In use, the joint tape is positioned over and removably secured to a joint or corner between adjacent wallboard panels using the first adhesive layer. After the joint tape is in position, joint compound is applied to the joint tape, and the water in the joint tape activates it to form a secure bond with the wallboard panels.

Claims

1. A joint tape to be applied to wallboard, the joint tape comprising:

a base substrate having opposing sides; and

a single adhesive layer applied to one of the sides of said base substrate, wherein said adhesive layer is formed by a mixture of at least two adhesives.

2. The joint tape of claim 1, wherein said at least two adhesives include an adhesive that forms a weak bond with the wallboard such that the base substrate is removable and repositionable on the wallboard, and another adhesive that is activated by water.

3. The joint tape of claim 1, wherein said adhesive layer is applied to an entire one of the sides of the base substrate.

4. The joint tape of claim 1, wherein said base substrate includes a cellulose material.

5. The joint tape of claim 4, wherein said cellulose material is paper.

6. A joint tape to be applied to wallboard, the joint tape comprising:

a base substrate having opposing sides;

a first adhesive layer applied to one of the sides of said base substrate; and

a second adhesive layer applied to said first adhesive layer, wherein said first adhesive layer is different than said second adhesive layer.

7. The joint tape of claim 6, wherein said first adhesive layer includes an adhesive that forms a weak bond with the wallboard such that the base substrate is removable and repositionable on the wallboard.

8. The joint tape of claim 6, wherein said second adhesive layer includes an adhesive that is activated by water.

9. The joint tape of claim 6, wherein a bond formed between the first adhesive layer and the wallboard is weaker than a bond formed between the second adhesive layer and the wallboard.

10. The joint tape of claim 6, wherein said first adhesive layer is applied to the entire side of the base substrate.

11. The joint tape of claim 6, wherein said second adhesive layer is applied to a portion of the first adhesive layer.

12. The joint tape of claim 6, wherein said second adhesive layer is applied to the first adhesive layer in a pattern.

13. The joint tape of claim 12, wherein said pattern includes one of:

a plurality of circles and a plurality of lines each extending across a width of said base substrate.

14. A joint tape to be applied to wallboard, the joint tape comprising:

a base substrate having a front side and a rear side;

a first adhesive layer applied to said rear side of said base substrate; and

a plurality of second adhesive layers applied to said first adhesive layer, wherein said first adhesive layer is different than each of said plurality of second adhesive layers.

15. The joint tape of claim 14, wherein each of said plurality of second adhesive layers includes an adhesive activated by water.

16. The joint tape of claim 14, wherein each of said plurality of second adhesive layers includes the same adhesive.

17. The joint tape of claim 14, wherein at least one of said plurality of second adhesive layers is applied to the first adhesive layer in a pattern.

18. The joint tape of claim 17, wherein said pattern includes one of:

a plurality of circles and a plurality of lines each extending across a width of said base substrate.
