Abstract

A method is disclosed for remote monitoring of a premises, comprising the steps of operatively coupling a geographically remote client to a security system server which is capable of authenticating a user of the remote client, operatively coupling the remote client to a security gateway which is capable of managing the monitoring of the premises, activating a signal at the premises for notifying an occupant at the premises that remote monitoring is occurring, and transferring information between the security gateway and the remote client. The transfer of information between the security gateway and the remote client is controlled by the user of the remote client. The security gateway may be operably coupled to at least one camera at the premises and to at least one audio station at the premises.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a premises management system, first access information;

comparing, by the premises management system, the first access information to second access information, wherein the second access information is received from a source that is distinct from a source of the first access information; and

granting, responsive to determining the first access information matches the second access information, remote access to the premises management system.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first access information is associated with a remote device.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the first access information comprises an identifier associated with the remote device.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the granting remote access comprises allowing a remote device to access content.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the content comprises images of at least a portion of a premises.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the granting remote access comprises allowing a remote device to control one or more of a camera and an audio station at a premises.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the granting remote access comprises allowing a remote device to control one or more lighting devices at a premises.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the granting remote access comprises allowing a remote device to control an irrigation system at a premises.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the granting remote access comprises allowing a remote device to control one or more security devices at a premises.

10. A method comprising:

receiving, by a premises management system, first access information from a remote device;

receiving, by the premises management system, second access information; and

operatively coupling, using the first access information, the remote device to the premises management system, wherein the operatively coupling is dependent on a determination that the received first access information matches the received second access information.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the premises management system is operably coupled to one or more of a camera and an audio station.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein the premises management system comprises a controller operably coupled to the remote device.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the controller is configured to control one or more of a home automation system and a security system.

14. The method of claim 10, further comprising generating, responsive to transfer of information from the premises management system to the remote device an indication indicating that remote monitoring is occurring.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the information transferred from the premises management system to the remote device comprises one or more of an audio data, an image data, and a video data.

16. The method of claim 10, further comprising streaming, in substantially real-time, data from the premises management system to the remote device.

17. The method of claim 10, further comprising facilitating substantially real-time audio and/or video communication between the remote device and the premises management system.

18. The method of claim 10, further comprising recording audio and/or video data during a particular time period.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the particular time period begins prior to triggering of an alarm or a sensor.

20. A method comprising:

receiving, by a premises management system, first access information from a remote device;

receiving, by the premises management system, second access information; and

granting, responsive to determining the first access information matches the second access information, the remote device remote access to the premises management system.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the first access information comprises an access token configured to facilitate selective access of the remote device to one or more first features of the premises management system.

22. The method of claim 21, further comprising restricting accessing of the remote device to one or more second features of the premises management system based at least on the access token.

23. The method of claim 20, wherein the premises management system is coupled to at least one camera, and wherein the granting remote access to the premises management system comprises facilitating control of the at least one camera by the remote device.

24. The method of claim 20, wherein the premises management system is coupled to at least one audio station, and wherein the granting remote access to the premises management system comprises facilitating control of the at least one audio station by the remote device.

25. The method of claim 20, wherein the premises management system comprises a controller configured to perform one or more automation functions at a premises.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein the controller is configured to control one or more electrical devices at the premises.

27. The method of claim 25, wherein the controller is configured to control an irrigation system at the premises.

28. The method of claim 25, wherein the controller is configured to control one or more doors at the premises.

29. The method of claim 25, wherein the controller is configured to control one or more of an air conditioning system and a heating system at the premises.

30. The method of claim 20, wherein the premises management system comprises one or more of a security system gateway, a lifestyle monitoring device, and an automation device.

31. The method claim 20, wherein the premises management system comprises a processor-based device configured to communicate with one or more devices at a premises to control one or more of a monitoring and automation feature associated with the premises.

32. The method of claim 31, wherein at least a portion of the premises management system is disposed external to the premises.

33. The method of claim 31, wherein at least a portion of the premises management system is disposed internal to the premises.
