Abstract

A system for occupancy prediction includes one or more occupancy sensors configured to detect a current occupancy state of one or more detection zones including at least one of occupied by one or more occupants or vacant of occupants. The system including one or more occupancy sensors configured to predict a future occupancy state of the one or more zones based on the current occupancy state and one or more historical occupancy states, wherein at least one occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensor is communicatively coupled to an electrical load. The system including at least one occupancy sensor is configured to actuate the electrical load based on the predicted future occupancy state of the one or more zones.

Claims

1. A predictive control system, comprising:

one or more occupancy sensors configured to detect a current occupancy state of one or more detection zones, an occupancy state including at least one of occupied by one or more occupants or vacant of occupants, the one or more occupancy sensors configured to predict a future occupancy state of the one or more zones based on the current occupancy state and one or more historical occupancy states, wherein at least one occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors is communicatively coupled to an electrical load, wherein the at least one occupancy sensor is configured to actuate the electrical load based on the predicted future occupancy state of the one or more zones.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the occupancy state includes a noise state.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the noise state comprises:

at least one of silence, footsteps, ambient noise, music, conversation, or television.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the occupancy state includes occupied by an occupant.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the occupancy state includes an action of the occupant.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the action of the occupant comprises:

at least one of entering a field of view of an occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors, moving through a field of view of an occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors, remaining stationary within a field of view of an occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors, or exiting a field of view of an occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors.

7. The system of claim 4, wherein the occupancy state includes a position of the occupant within a field of view of an optical sensor of the one or more optical sensors.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein predicting the future occupancy state based on one or more recorded occupancy states comprises:

Predicting the future occupancy state based on a recursive bayesian estimation.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein a first occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors detects an occupant in a first detection zone, wherein the one or more occupancy sensors track a location of the occupant as the occupant moves from the first detection zone to a second detection zone of a second occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the first occupancy sensor detects a direction of motion of the occupant, wherein the first occupancy sensor transmits data indicative of the direction of motion of the occupant to the second occupancy sensor when the occupant exits the first detection zone.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein a first occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors determines a distance to a second occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the one or more occupancy sensors determine a distance between the occupant and at least one of the first occupancy sensor or the second occupancy sensor based on a strength of a signal transmitted by the occupancy sensor and received by the occupant.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the signal comprises:

a radio-frequency signal.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the one or more occupancy sensors determine a distance between the first occupancy sensor and the second occupancy sensor based on a strength of a signal transmitted by the first occupancy sensor and received by the second occupancy sensor.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein the signal comprises:

a radio-frequency signal.

16. The system of claim 1, wherein a zone of the one or more zones is indoors.

17. The system of claim 1, wherein a zone of the one or more zones is outdoors.

18. The system of claim 1, wherein each occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors includes a mounting assembly configured to mount to an electrical junction box, the mounting assembly further configured to connect to electrical wiring within the electrical junction box.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the mounting assembly includes a backplate, the backplate configured to mount to an electrical junction box, the backplate further configured to connect to electrical wiring within the electrical junction box, the occupancy sensor configured to removably couple to the backplate.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the device control assembly is configured to toollessly couple to the backplate.

21. A system for occupancy prediction, comprising:

one or more occupancy sensors configured to detect an occupancy state of an occupant, the occupancy state including at least one of a location, a direction of motion, or a speed of motion of the occupant, the one or more occupancy sensors configured to predict a future occupancy state of the occupant based on the current occupancy state and one or more historical occupancy states, wherein at least one occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors is communicatively coupled to an electrical load, wherein the at least one occupancy sensor is configured to actuate the electrical load based on the predicted future occupancy state of the occupant.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein the occupancy state includes an action of the occupant.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the action of the occupant comprises:

at least one of entering a field of view of an occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors, moving through a field of view of an occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors, remaining stationary within a field of view of an occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors, or exiting a field of view of an occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors.

24. The system of claim 21, wherein the occupancy state comprises:

a position of the occupant within a field of view of an optical sensor of the one or more optical sensors.

25. The system of claim 21, wherein predicting the future occupancy state based on one or more recorded occupancy states comprises:

predicting the future occupancy state based on a recursive bayesian estimation.

26. The system of claim 21, wherein each occupancy sensor of the one or more occupancy sensors includes a mounting assembly configured to mount to an electrical junction box, the mounting assembly further configured to connect to electrical wiring within the electrical junction box.

27. The system of claim 26, wherein the mounting assembly includes a backplate, the backplate configured to mount to an electrical junction box, the backplate further configured to connect to electrical wiring within the electrical junction box, the occupancy sensor configured to removably couple to the backplate.

28. The system of claim 27, wherein the device control assembly is configured to toollessly couple to the backplate.

29. A system for occupancy prediction, comprising:

one or more occupancy sensors to detect an occupancy state of one or more zones, wherein an occupancy state includes at least one of;

occupied by one or more occupants or vacant of occupants, wherein each of the one or more occupancy sensors comprise;

a device control assembly, the device control assembly configured to be toollessly and interchangeably coupled into a cavity of a backplate configured to mount to an electrical junction box, the backplate further configured to connect to electrical wiring within the electrical junction box, the device control assembly configured to receive electrical power from the backplate, wherein the device control assembly includes a detector configured to measure one or more wavelengths of radiation indicative of the one or more occupants; and

a controller communicatively coupled to the one or more occupancy sensors, the controller configured to;

receive the occupancy state of the one or more zones from the one or more occupancy sensors;

predict a future occupancy state of the one or more zones based on one or more historical occupancy states.
