Abstract

A linking device, for linking to a broadcast service received by a broadcast receiving device, may include: a communication unit that forms a pairing session with the broadcast receiving device; and a control unit that transmits a block notification request for signaling information to the broadcast receiving device, receives the signaling information, and performs functions related to the received signaling information.

Claims

1. A companion device interoperating with a broadcast reception device for receiving a broadcast service, the companion device comprising:

a communication unit configured to establish a pairing session with the broadcast reception device; and

a controller configured to transmit a request for notification of signaling information from the broadcast reception device, to receive the signaling information and to perform a function related to the received signaling information.

2. The companion device according to claim 1,

wherein the signaling information includes broadcast service property information, and

wherein the controller receives updated property information from the broadcast reception device, selectively requests some properties included in the updated property information from the broadcast reception device and receives information on the requested properties.

3. The companion device according to claim 1, wherein the reception of the updated property information and the request for some properties are performed and made based on names of properties included in the broadcast service property information.

4. The companion device according to claim 1,

wherein the signaling information includes emergency alert information,

wherein the controller:

receives at least one of a message identifier, a service identifier and URI information from the broadcast reception device, and

requests the emergency alert information from the broadcast reception device based on the received message identifier and service identifier or requests the emergency alert information from a content server based on the received URI information, and

wherein the emergency alert information is received based on the request.

5. The companion device according to claim 1,

wherein the signaling information includes emergency alert information,

wherein the controller:

receives URI information from the broadcast reception device, and

receives the emergency alert information from the broadcast reception device based on the received URI information, and

wherein the emergency alert information includes a user interface page generated by the broadcast reception device.

6. The companion device according to claim 1,

wherein the signaling information includes non-real-time information, and

wherein the controller:

requests property information of the non-real-time data using an identifier of the non-real-time data, and

receives the property information of the non-real-time data in an XML from the broadcast reception device.

7. The companion device according to claim 1,

wherein the signaling information includes device capability information, and

wherein the controller:

receives the device capability information,

requests a media component based on the device capability information, and

receives and presents the media component.

8. The companion device according to claim 7, wherein the device capability information further includes location information of a replaceable media component.

9. The companion device according to claim 8,

wherein the location information includes URL information of the replaceable media component, and

wherein the controller receives the replaceable media component from the broadcast reception device or a content server based on the URL information.

10. A method of interoperating with a broadcast reception device for receiving a broadcast service, the method comprising:

establishing a pairing session with the broadcast reception device;

transmitting a request for notification of signaling information from the broadcast reception device;

receiving the signaling information; and

performing a function related to the received signaling information.

11. The method according to claim 10,

wherein the signaling information includes broadcast service property information, and

wherein the reception of the signaling information includes:

receiving updated property information from the broadcast reception device;

selectively requesting some properties included in the updated property information from the broadcast reception device; and

receiving information on the requested properties.

12. The method according to claim 11, wherein the reception of the updated property information and the request for some properties are performed and made based on names of properties included in the broadcast service property information.

13. The method according to claim 10,

wherein the signaling information includes emergency alert information,

wherein the reception of the signaling information includes:

receiving at least one of a message identifier, a service identifier and URI information from the broadcast reception device,

requesting the emergency alert information from the broadcast reception device based on the received message identifier and service identifier or requesting the emergency alert information from a content server based on the received URI information, and

receiving the emergency alert information based on the request.

14. The method according to claim 10,

wherein the signaling information includes emergency alert information,

wherein the reception of the signaling information includes:

receiving URI information from the broadcast reception device; and

receiving the emergency alert information from the broadcast reception device based on the received URI information, and

wherein the emergency alert information includes a user interface page generated by the broadcast reception device.

15. The method according to claim 10,

wherein the signaling information includes non-real-time information, and

wherein the reception of the signaling information includes:

requesting property information of the non-real-time data using an identifier of the non-real-time data, and

receiving the property information of the non-real-time data in an XML from the broadcast reception device.

16. The method according to claim 10,

wherein the signaling information includes device capability information, and

wherein the reception of the signaling information includes:

receiving the device capability information,

requesting a media component based on the device capability information, and

receiving and presenting the media component.

17. The method according to claim 16, wherein the device capability information further includes location information of a replaceable media component.

18. The method according to claim 17,

wherein the location information includes URL information of the replaceable media component, and

wherein the controller receives the replaceable media component from the broadcast reception device or a content server based on the URL information.

19. A broadcast reception device for receiving a broadcast service from a companion device, the broadcast reception device comprising:

a first communication unit configured to establish a pairing session with the companion device;

a second communication unit configured to receive signaling information for signaling the broadcast service based on the broadcast service; and

a controller configured to notify the companion device of the signaling information.

20. A method of enabling a broadcast reception device to interoperate with a companion device, the method comprising:

establishing a pairing session with the companion device;

receiving signaling information for signaling the broadcast service based on the broadcast service; and

notifying the companion device of the signaling information.
