Abstract

A system for capacitive vehicle charging, the system comprising: a capacitive electrical storage unit disposed on a charge receiving vehicle, the capacitive electrical storage unit comprising at least one surface conformal with an exterior surface of the charge receiving vehicle, the capacitive electrical storage unit configured to receive a charge at a charging site; a charge receiving vehicle controller configured to communicate with the charging site to receive charging from the charging site; wherein the capacitive electrical storage unit receives a charge from the charging site.

Claims

1. A system for capacitive vehicle charging, the system comprising:

a capacitive electrical storage unit disposed on a charge receiving vehicle, the capacitive electrical storage unit comprising at least one surface conformal with an exterior surface of the charge receiving vehicle, the capacitive electrical storage unit configured to receive a charge at a charging site;

a charge receiving vehicle controller configured to communicate with the charging site to receive charging from the charging site;

wherein the capacitive electrical storage unit receives a charge from the charging site.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the charge receiving vehicle controller is further configured to determine a compatibility of the capacitive electrical storage unit with the charging site.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the capacitive electrical storage unit comprises a pair of electrical plates separated by a dielectric.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the charge receiving vehicle further comprises a vehicle database comprising charging compatibility data.

5. The system of claim 3, wherein at least one of the pair of electrical plates of the capacitive electrical storage unit forms an exterior surface of the charge receiving vehicle.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the capacitive electrical storage unit is disposed on the charge receiving vehicle at a first location, the first location not on the undercarriage.

The system of claim 1, wherein the capacitive electrical storage unit is configured to operate in a plurality of states comprising a retracted state and a deployed state, wherein the capacitive electrical storage unit conforms to an exterior surface shape of the charge receiving vehicle when in the retracted state.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the charge receiving vehicle controller is configured to position the capacitive electrical storage unit between the retracted state and the deployed state.

9. The system of claim 3, wherein the charge receiving vehicle is configured to stop receiving a charge when the capacitive electrical storage unit reaches a threshold capacitance.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the threshold capacitance is user selectable.

11. The system of claim 3, wherein the capacitive electrical storage unit is configured with a surrounding safety enclosure.

12. The system of claim 1, wherein the positioning of the capacitive electrical storage unit is performed automatically by actuation of the actuator.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the actuator is configured to move the capacitive electrical storage unit in both a vertical and a lateral direction.

14. The system of claim 3, wherein the capacitive electrical storage unit is a plurality of capacitive electrical storage units.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the plurality of capacitive electrical storage units are disposed on the charge receiving vehicle at a first vehicle location comprising a door panel, a roof, a hatchback panel, a hood, a quarter panel, an undercarriage and a bumper.

16. A method for capacitive vehicle charging comprising:

providing a charge receiving vehicle comprising a capacitive electrical storage unit, the capacitive electrical storage unit comprising at least one surface conformal with an exterior surface of the charge receiving vehicle, the capacitive electrical storage unit configured to receive a charge at a charging site;

a charge receiving vehicle controller configured to communicate with the charging site to receive charging from the charging site;

positioning the charge receiving vehicle at the charging site;

determining, by the microprocessor, a compatible charging configuration between the charge receiving vehicle and the charging site to enable charging of the capacitive electrical storage unit;

maneuvering, by the microprocessor, the capacitive electrical storage unit to receive charging from the charging site;

wherein the capacitive electrical storage unit receives a charge from the charging site.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the charge receiving vehicle controller is further configured to determine a compatibility of the capacitive electrical storage unit with the charging site.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the capacitive electrical storage unit comprises a pair of electrical plates separated by a dielectric.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the charge receiving vehicle further comprises a vehicle database comprising charging compatibility data.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein at least one of the pair of electrical plates of the capacitive electrical storage unit forms an exterior surface of the charge receiving vehicle.
