Abstract

A display unit with a touch detection function includes: a plurality of touch detection electrodes arranged side by side to extend in a direction, each of the touch detection electrodes being formed in a predetermined electrode pattern including electrode portion and opening portion and outputting a detection signal, based on a variation in capacitance due to an external proximity object; and a plurality of display elements formed in a layer different from a layer of the touch detection electrodes, a predetermined number of the display elements being arranged within a width dimension of a region corresponding to each of the touch detection electrodes. The predetermined electrode pattern corresponds to a layout pattern of the display elements.

Claims

1. A display unit with a touch detection function, the display unit comprising:

(a) a plurality of touch detection electrodes that output a detection signal based on a variation in capacitance due to an external proximity object, the touch detection electrodes including (1) a plurality of strip-shaped electrode parts arranged in parallel to each other, (2) a plurality of connection parts that connect the strip-shaped electrode parts to each other in a first direction perpendicular to a second extending direction of the strip-shaped electrode parts, and (3) a plurality of opening surrounded by the strip-shaped parts and the connection parts; and

(b) a plurality of display elements formed in a display region in a layer different from a layer of the touch detection electrodes, the display elements being arranged at a predetermined pitch in the first direction,

wherein,

the strip-shaped electrode parts are spaced at a same pitch in the first direction,

the strip-shaped electrode parts and the connection parts are provided in a region corresponding to borders between the display elements adjacent to each other, and

the openings are disposed to overlap a respective display element in a plan view.

2. The display unit according to claim 1, further comprising a plurality of signal lines that communicate a pixel signal to be transmitted to the display elements, wherein the strip-shaped electrode parts are arranged in a region corresponding to signal lines.

3. The display unit according to claim 2, further comprising a plurality of selection lines used to select the display element which is a target of display operation, wherein the connection parts are provided in a region corresponding to the selection lines.

4. The display unit according to claim 1, wherein:

the display elements form display pixels each of which includes a red sub-element, a green sub-element, and a blue sub-element, and

the strip-shaped electrode parts are provided at least in a region corresponding to a color sub-element for red light, green light, or blue light.

5. The display unit according to claim 4, wherein the strip-shaped electrode parts are provided at least in a region corresponding to the red sub-element.

6. The display unit according to claim 5, wherein the strip-shaped electrode parts are further provided in a region corresponding to the green sub-element as well.

7. The display unit according to claim 6, wherein the strip-shaped electrode parts and the openings are provided in a region corresponding to the blue sub-element.

8. The display unit according to claim 7, wherein each of the openings is provided substantially at a center of the blue sub-element, the center representing a position in a direction along which the red sub-element, the green sub-element, and the blue sub-element are arrayed.

The display unit according to claim 1, further comprising a plurality of dummy electrodes disposed in a region between the touch detection electrodes, each of the dummy electrodes being formed in a predetermined dummy electrode pattern including a plurality of strip-shaped electrode parts and a plurality of openings, wherein, the dummy electrode pattern corresponds to a layout pattern of the display elements.

The display unit according to claim 1, further comprising a plurality of drive electrodes arranged side by side and extending in a direction intersecting the touch detection electrodes, wherein, capacitance is formed at each of intersections of the touch detection electrodes and the drive electrodes.

11. The display unit according to claim 10, further comprising a liquid crystal layer and a plurality of pixel electrodes disposed to face the drive electrodes across the liquid crystal layer, wherein the liquid crystal layer being interposed between the pixel electrodes and the drive electrodes.

12. The display unit according to claim 10, further comprising a liquid crystal layer and a plurality of pixel electrodes formed between the liquid crystal layer and the drive electrodes.

13. A display unit comprising:

a plurality of detection electrodes that output a detection signal based on a variation in capacitance due to an external proximity object, the detection electrodes including (a) a plurality of strip-shaped electrode parts arranged in parallel to each other, and (b) a plurality of connection parts that connect the strip-shaped electrode parts to each other in a first direction perpendicular to a second extending direction of the strip-shaped electrode parts;

a plurality of display elements formed in a display region in a layer different from a layer of the detection electrodes, the display elements being arranged at a predetermined pitch in the first direction; and

a plurality of signal lines allowing the display elements to be driven,

wherein,

the strip-shaped electrode parts are arranged in a region corresponding to the signal lines, the strip-shaped electrode parts being spaced at a same pitch in the first direction, and

the strip-shaped electrode parts and the connection parts are provided in a region corresponding to borders between the display elements adjacent to each other, and

the openings are disposed to overlap a respective display element in a plan view.

14. The display unit according to claim 13, further comprising dummy electrodes formed in the same layer as the layer where the detection electrodes are formed, wherein part of each of the dummy electrodes is provided in a region corresponding to the signal lines.

15. An electronic device comprising:

a display unit with a touch detection function; and

a control section performing operation control with use of the display unit,

wherein,

the display unit includes (a) a plurality of touch detection electrodes that output a detection signal based on a variation in capacitance due to an external proximity object, the touch detection electrodes including (1) a plurality of strip-shaped electrode parts arranged in parallel to each other and (2) a plurality of connection parts that connect the strip-shaped electrode parts to each other in a first direction perpendicular to a second extending direction of the strip-shaped electrode parts; and

(b) a plurality of display elements formed in a display region in a layer different from a layer of the touch detection electrodes, the display elements being arranged at a predetermined pitch in the first direction,

the strip-shaped electrode parts are spaced at a same pitch in the first direction,

the strip-shaped electrode parts and the connection parts are provided in a region corresponding to borders between the display elements adjacent to each other, and

the openings are disposed to overlap a respective display element in a plan view.
