Abstract

The invention relates to compounds, compositions, and methods that can inhibit the biosynthesis of mycotoxins.

Claims

1. A method for inhibiting mycotoxin production by a fungus, comprising applying a composition comprising a compound of formula IA, a compound of formula IB, a compound of formula II, or a combination or salt thereof to an object or a surface suspected of having a fungus:

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the aryl contains about 6 to about 14 carbons in the ring portions of the aryl.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the aryl is phenyl.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the substituents on the aryl are each separately selected from the group consisting of hydroxy;

halogen;

lower alkyl;

lower alkoxy;

amino; and

thiol.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the substituents on the aryl are each separately hydroxy or and lower alkoxy.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein m is 2, 3, or 4.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein Z is oxo (═

O), hydroxy, or amino.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein Z is oxo (═

O), and Y is a carbon atom.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein B is an aryl ring.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein B is phenyl.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the composition comprises at least one of the following compounds:

17. The compound of claim 13, wherein the substituents on the aryl are each separately hydroxy or and lower alkoxy.
