Abstract

A system and method for displaying a vehicle location on a user device includes an in-vehicle infotainment system and the user device coupled to the in-vehicle infotainment system of a vehicle. A global positioning system generates a vehicle position signal at the vehicle. The in-vehicle infotainment system communicates the vehicle position signal to a user device. The user device generates a display comprising the current vehicle position.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

coupling a mobile device to an in-vehicle infotainment system;

generating a vehicle position signal at the vehicle;

communicating the vehicle position signal corresponding to a current vehicle position to a user device; and

generating a display at the user device comprising the current vehicle position.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein communicating the vehicle position signal to the user device comprises communicating the vehicle position to the mobile device.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein communicating the vehicle position signal to the user device comprises communicating the vehicle position to a wearable device.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein communicating the vehicle position signal to the user device comprises communicating the vehicle position to a set top box.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein generating the display comprises generating the display comprising the current vehicle position and a past vehicle positions on a map display.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein coupling the mobile device comprises coupling a plurality of mobile devices, each comprising respective identifiers and further comprising displaying the respective identifiers on the display.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein generating the vehicle position signal comprises generating the vehicle position signal at a global positioning system of the vehicle.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein generating the vehicle position signal comprises generating the vehicle position signal at a global positioning system of the mobile device.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein communicating the vehicle position signal comprises repeatedly communicating the vehicle position to the user device.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein repeatedly communicating vehicle position comprises repeatedly communicating a user identifier and vehicle position to a head end and communicating the user identifier from the head end to a set top box.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein receiving, at the in-vehicle infotainment system, advertisement signals from an advertisement source through the head end.

12. The method of claim 1 further comprising generating a recommendation list comprising at least one recommendation determined in response to the vehicle position signal.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising communicating advertisement signals to the in-vehicle infotainment system from an advertisement source.

14. The method of claim 1 further comprising communicating a voice-over-IP signal from the user device to the in-vehicle infotainment system.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the user device comprises a set top box.

16. The method of claim 14 further comprising communicating a voice-over-IP signal from the in-vehicle infotainment system to the user device.

17. The method of claim 1 wherein generating the display comprises generating a map display as an overlay to a content signal generated by a set top box.

18. The method of claim 1 further comprising communicating vehicle data to the in-vehicle infotainment system and displaying vehicle data at the display.

19. The method of claim 1 further comprising generating a transmission selector signal and communicating the vehicle position to the user device in response to the transmission selector signal.

20. A system comprising:

an in-vehicle infotainment system;

a user device coupled to the in-vehicle infotainment system of a vehicle;

a global positioning system generating a vehicle position signal at the vehicle;

said in-vehicle infotainment system communicating the vehicle position signal corresponding to a vehicle position to a user device; and

said user device generating a display comprising the vehicle position.

21. The system of claim 20 wherein the user device comprises mobile device.

22. The system of claim 20 wherein the user device comprises a wearable device.

23. The system of claim 20 wherein the user device comprises a set top box.

24. The system of claim 20 wherein the user device generates the display comprising a current vehicle position and a past vehicle position on a map display.

25. The system of claim 20 wherein the mobile device comprises a plurality of mobile devices, each of the mobile devices comprising respective identifiers and wherein the display displays the respective identifiers.

26. The system of claim 20 wherein the global positioning system comprises a vehicle global positioning system.

27. The system of claim 20 wherein the global positioning system comprises a mobile device global positioning system.

28. The system of claim 20 wherein the global positioning system repeatedly communicates the vehicle position signal to the user device.

29. The system of claim 20 further comprising a head end and wherein the global positioning system repeatedly communicates the vehicle position signal to a set top box through the head end.

30. The system of claim 20 wherein a head end communicates advertisement signals to the in-vehicle infotainment system from an advertisement source.

31. The system of claim 20 wherein a head end generating a recommendation list comprising at least one recommendation determined in response to the vehicle position signal.

32. The system of claim 20 further comprising an advertisement source communicating advertisement signals to the in-vehicle infotainment system based on the position signal.

33. The system of claim 20 wherein the user device comprises a set top box that communicates a voice-over-IP signal to the in-vehicle infotainment system.

34. The system of claim 33 wherein the in-vehicle infotainment system communicates a voice-over-IP signal to the set top box.

35. The system of claim 20 wherein a set top box generates the display a map display overlayed on a content signal.

36. The system of claim 20 further comprising a vehicle diagnostic system communicating vehicle data to the in-vehicle infotainment system and wherein the display of the user device displays the vehicle data.

37. The system of claim 20 further comprising a transmission selector generating a transmission selector signal and said in-vehicle infotainment system communicating the vehicle position to the user device in response to the transmission selector signal.
