Abstract

This disclosure generally relates to building automation systems, and more particularly to device enrollment techniques in a Building Automation System (BAS). In one example, the Building Automation System includes a central controller and one or more remote sensors/devices. The central controller is initially placed into its enrollment mode. An installer may then walk around the building uttering a predetermined verbal word or phrase. When a sensor/device hears the predetermined verbal word or phrase, the corresponding sensor/device enters its enrollment mode, and then becomes enrolled with the central controller of the Building Automation System. In some cases, the Building Automation System may include a security system.

Claims

1. A security system sensor for use in a building security system, the security system sensor comprising:

a wireless transceiver;

a microphone;

a controller operatively coupled to the wireless transceiver and the microphone, the controller configured to;

receive a spoken word or phrase via the microphone;

determine if the received spoken word or phrase corresponds to a predetermined enrollment trigger word or phrase; and

enter an enrollment mode if the received spoken word or phrase corresponds to the predetermined enrollment trigger word or phrase.

2. The security system sensor of claim 1, wherein the controller comprises a voice recognition engine for recognizing the predetermined enrollment trigger word or phrase.

3. The security system sensor of claim 1, wherein once in the enrollment mode, the controller is configured to receive a security system address from a security system controller of the building security system, and to store the security system address in a memory of the security system sensor.

4. The security system sensor of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to:

determine if the received spoken word or phrase corresponds to a predetermined system check trigger word or phrase; and

perform a system check if the received spoken word or phrase corresponds to the predetermined system check trigger word or phrase.

5. A device for use in a Building Automation System (BAS), the device comprising:

a communication port;

a microphone;

a controller operatively coupled to the communication port and the microphone, the controller configured to;

receive an audio signal via the microphone;

determine if the received audio signal matches a predetermined audio signal template; and

enter an enrollment mode if the received auto signal matches the predetermined audio signal template.

6. The device of claim 5, wherein the communication port comprises a wireless transceiver.

7. The device of claim 5, wherein the predetermined audio signal template comprises a predetermined voice pattern.

8. The device of claim 7, wherein the predetermined voice pattern comprises a predetermined trigger word or phrase.

9. The device of claim 8, wherein the controller comprises a voice recognition engine for recognizing the predetermined trigger word or phrase.

10. The device of claim 9, wherein the voice recognition engine comprises voice biometrics to help reduce inadvertently entering the enrollment mode.

11. The device of claim 5, wherein the predetermined audio signal template comprises a predetermined pattern of audio tones.

12. The device of claim 11, wherein the predetermined pattern of audio tones comprises a plurality of audio tones spaced along in a predetermined time pattern.

13. The device of claim 11, wherein the predetermined pattern of audio tones comprises a plurality of audio tones of different amplitudes and/or frequencies.

14. The device of claim 5, wherein once in the enrollment mode, the controller is configured to receive a BAS address from a BAS controller, and to store the BAS address in a memory of the device.

15. The device of claim 5, wherein the device is a wireless sensor for use with a security system.

16. A method for enrolling one or more sensors in a security system, the method comprising:

installing a central controller of a security system;

installing one or more security system sensors in an area to be secured;

placing the central controller into an enroll mode; and

placing each of the one or more security system sensors into an enrollment mode with a spoken verbal command.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein each of each of the one or more security system sensors comprises a microphone, and the spoken verbal command is given within range of the microphone of each of the one or more security system sensors.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein once in the enrollment mode, each of the one or more security system sensors initiating a wireless enrollment communication with the central controller.

19. The method of claim 16, further comprising initiating a system check with a different spoken verbal command, wherein the system check comprises communicating an alarm condition from the corresponding security system sensor to the central controller.

20. The method of claim 16, wherein the one or more security system sensors comprises one or more of a limit-switch, a motion sensor, a glass break sensor, a door sensor, a window sensor, a video camera, a smoke sensor, a carbon monoxide sensor, and a natural gas sensor.
