1. An apparatus, comprising:

  • a filter circuit structured to filter vibration data within a predetermined engine combustion time period, the vibration data indicative of a vibration of an internal combustion engine;

    a PCP determination circuit operatively and communicably coupled to the filter circuit and structured to determine a peak cylinder pressure (PCP) of a combustion cycle of the internal combustion engine based on the filtered vibration data;

    a LPP determination circuit operatively and communicably coupled to the filter circuit and structured to determine a location of peak cylinder pressure (LPP) of the combustion cycle of the internal combustion engine based on the filtered vibration data, the PCP and the LPP indicative of a performance characteristic of the combustion cycle; and

    an ignition timing circuit and communicably coupled to the PCP determination circuit and the LPP determination circuit, wherein the ignition timing circuit is structured to modify an ignition timing of the internal combustion engine based on the determined PCP and LPP.
