Abstract

A display device comprises a display panel, a light source, an optical member, and a frame. The optical member reflects light from the light source towards the display panel. The frame has a protruding portion that supports the optical member and is disposed near a periphery of the display panel.

Claims

1. A display device comprising:

a display panel;

a light source;

an optical member that reflects light from the light source towards the display panel;

a frame having a protruding portion that supports the optical member and is disposed near a periphery of the display panel.

2. The display device according to claim 1, wherein

the protruding portion is disposed near each of sides of a display area of the display panel.

3. The display device according to claim 2, wherein

the protruding portion includes a plurality of protruding parts, with the protruding parts being independently arranged relative to the sides, respectively.

4. The display device according to claim 1, wherein

the protruding portion includes a protruding part with a curved end as viewed in a direction perpendicular to a display surface of the display panel.

5. The display device according to claim 2, wherein

the protruding portion includes a plurality of protruding parts that is disposed near one of the sides that extends in a longitudinal direction of the display area.

6. The display device according to claim 1, wherein

the frame contacts with the light source.

7. The display device according to claim 2, wherein

the protruding portion includes a first convex portion that contacts with the optical member near one of the sides of the display area of the display panel, and a second convex portion that is spaced apart from the first convex portion towards a center of the display area and contacts with the optical member.

8. The display device according to claim 1, further comprising

a supporting member that is spaced apart from a surface of the optical member on which the protruding portion contacts with the optical member by a predetermined distance and is disposed on one side of the optical member towards which the surface is facing.

9. The display device according to claim 8, wherein

the predetermined distance is equal to or more than 1 mm.

10. The display device according to claim 2, wherein

the frame includes a heat sink, and

the protruding portion includes first and second convex portions of the heat sink, the first convex portion contacting with the optical member near one of the sides of the display area of the display panel, and the second convex portion being spaced apart from the first convex portion towards a center of the display area and contacting with the optical member.

11. The display device according to claim 10, wherein

the frame further includes an optical member holder, and

the protruding portion includes a plurality of protruding parts of the optical member holder, the protruding parts contacting with the optical member and bulging towards the optical member.

12. The display device according to claim 11, wherein

the optical member holder is independently formed as a separate member from the heat sink.

13. The display device according to claim 10, wherein

the light source is attached to the heat sink, and

the light source includes a plurality of light sources that is arranged along one of the sides of the display area of the display panel along which the heat sink is arranged.

14. The display device according to claim 10, wherein

the heat sink is arranged along one of the sides of the display area of the display panel that extends in a first direction, and

the protruding portion further includes a protruding part that contacts with the optical member and is arranged along adjacent one of sides of the display area of the display panel, with the adjacent one of the sides being adjacent to the one of the sides and extends in a second direction that is perpendicular to the first direction.

15. The display device according to claim 14, wherein

the first convex portion and the second convex portion extends parallel to the first direction.

16. The display device according to claim 14, wherein

the first convex portion and the second convex portion are spaced apart from each other in the second direction by a dimension that is larger than a dimension of the protruding part in the first direction.

17. The display device according to claim 14, wherein

the first convex portion and the second convex portion has dimensions in the second direction that are smaller than a dimension of the protruding part in the first direction.

18. The display device according to claim 2, wherein

the protruding portion includes a plurality of protruding parts that contacts with the optical member, respectively.

19. The display device according to claim 18, wherein

the protruding parts contact with the optical member at locations spaced apart from each other along a periphery of the display area of the display panel.

20. The display device according to claim 18, wherein

each of the protruding parts has a shape that is longer in a direction parallel to corresponding one of the sides of the display area of the display panel than in a direction perpendicular to the corresponding one of the sides of the display area of the display panel and parallel to a display surface of the display panel.
