Abstract

An occlusive device, occlusive device delivery system, method of using, and method of delivering an occlusive device, and method of making an occlusive device to treat various intravascular conditions is described.

Claims

1. An occlusive device for medical treatment of a lumen, comprising:

a plurality of wires braided into a three dimensional structure comprising a cylindrical body and a braided, enclosed end of the cylindrical body;

wherein the braided, enclosed end includes a plurality of interconnected loops and is free from any free ends of the plurality of wires.

2. The occlusive device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of loops is arranged in an annular configuration, forming an opening at a center of the braided, enclosed end.

3. The occlusive device of claim 2, wherein each of the plurality of loops are interwoven with two adjacent loops of the plurality of loops.

4. The occlusive device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of loops is arranged in an annular configuration and being substantially free of an opening at a center of the braided, enclosed end.

5. The occlusive device of claim 4, wherein each of the plurality of loops are interwoven with diagonal or opposing loops of the plurality of loops.

6. The occlusive device of claim 1, further comprising a tether member positioned through the enclosed end and being further connected to a delivery catheter;

the tether being severable via a detachment mechanism on the catheter.

7. A method of braiding an occlusive device, comprising:

providing a mandrel having a cylindrical body and a convex end;

the cylindrical body and convex end having a plurality of pins extending therefrom;

braiding a plurality of wires into a plurality of interwoven loops around a center of the convex end of the mandrel; and

,

continuing a braid pattern around the convex end and down the cylindrical body.

8. The method of braiding of claim 7, wherein the braiding the plurality of wires into a plurality of interwoven loops further comprises braiding the plurality of wires such that each of the plurality of interwoven loops are interwoven with at least two adjacent loops from the plurality of interwoven loops.

9. The method of braiding of claim 8, wherein the plurality of interwoven loops is arranged in a circular pattern and form a center opening.

10. The method of braiding of claim 7, wherein the braiding the plurality of wires into a plurality of interwoven loops further comprises braiding the plurality of wires such that each of the plurality of interwoven loops are interwoven with an opposing or diagonal loop from the plurality of interwoven loops.

11. The method of braiding of claim 10, wherein the plurality of interwoven loops is arranged in a circular pattern that is substantially free of a center opening.

12. The method of braiding of claim 7, further comprising connecting a tether member through one or more portions of the occlusive device and to a catheter.

13. A method of forming an occlusive device, comprising:

providing a mandrel having a first cylindrical portion and a second cylindrical portion;

said second cylindrical portion having a smaller diameter than the first cylindrical portion;

the second cylindrical portion being connected to an end of the first cylindrical portion at a location offset from a center axis of the first cylindrical portion;

disposing a cylindrically braided mesh over the first cylindrical portion and the second cylindrical portion;

conforming a portion of the braided mesh to the second cylindrical portion; and

heat setting the braided mesh on the mandrel.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the conforming the portion of the braided mesh to the second cylindrical portion further comprising advancing a tube over the portion of the braided mesh and over the second cylindrical portion.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the end of the of the first cylindrical portion further comprises a recess around the second cylindrical portion, and wherein the tube is further advanced against the recess.
