Abstract

Methods, systems, and products recognize a gesture to control a device or appliance. A camera generates an image of a user performing the gesture. An image comparison is then performed between the image to images of recognized gestures. When the image matches a recognized gesture, a corresponding controller operation is performed.

Claims

1. A method of recognizing a gesture, comprising:

receiving, by a hardware processor, an image generated by a camera;

comparing, by the hardware processor, the image generated by the camera to images of recognized gestures;

determining, by the hardware processor, that the image generated by the camera matches an image of a recognized gesture of the images of the recognized gestures; and

identifying, by the hardware processor, an operation of a controller that is electronically associated with the image of the recognized gesture.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising selecting a device that corresponds to the operation of the controller.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising selecting an appliance that corresponds to the operation of the controller.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising generating a voltage signal in response to the identifying of the operation of the controller.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising closing a switch in response to the identifying of the operation of the controller.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising opening a switch in response to the identifying of the operation of the controller.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising powering on an appliance in response to the identifying of the operation of the controller.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising powering off an appliance in response to the identifying of the operation of the controller.

9. A system, comprising:

a hardware processor; and

a memory device, the memory device storing programming, the programming when executed causing the hardware processor to perform operations, the operations comprising;

receiving an image generated by a camera;

comparing the image generated by the camera to an electronic database that electronically associates operations of a controller to images of recognized gestures;

determining that the image generated by the camera matches an image of a recognized gesture of the images of the recognized gestures; and

identifying an operation of the operations of the controller in the electronic database that is electronically associated with the image of the recognized gesture.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the operations further comprise selecting a device that corresponds to the operation of the controller.

11. The system of claim 9, wherein the operations further comprise selecting an appliance that corresponds to the operation of the controller.

12. The system of claim 9, wherein the operations further comprise generating a voltage signal in response to the identifying of the operation of the controller.

13. The system of claim 9, wherein the operations further comprise closing a switch in response to the identifying of the operation of the controller.

14. The system of claim 9, wherein the operations further comprise opening a switch in response to the identifying of the operation of the controller.

15. The system of claim 9, wherein the operations further comprise powering on an appliance in response to the identifying of the operation of the controller.

16. The system of claim 9, wherein the operations further comprise powering off an appliance in response to the identifying of the operation of the controller.

17. A memory device storing programming that when executed cause a processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:

receiving an image generated by a camera;

comparing the image generated by the camera to an electronic database that electronically associates operations of a controller to images of recognized gestures;

determining that the image generated by the camera matches an image of a recognized gesture of the images of the recognized gestures; and

identifying an operation of the operations of the controller in the electronic database that is electronically associated with the image of the recognized gesture.

18. The memory device of claim 17, wherein the operations further comprise selecting a device that corresponds to the operation of the controller.

19. The memory device of claim 17, wherein the operations further comprise selecting an appliance that corresponds to the operation of the controller.

20. The memory device of claim 17, wherein the operations further comprise powering an appliance in response to the identifying of the operation of the controller.
