Abstract

A method and apparatus for tab management in a web browser are provided. The method includes identifying browsing contexts for at least one tab among tabs that are open on the web browser, creating tab groups, based on the identified browsing contexts, and then adding the tab or tabs to one or more of the created tab groups, and displaying tab groups to a user. The method further includes allowing the user to navigate through the tabs in selected tab groups, by providing a suitable interface, displaying tabs corresponding to browsing context of the selected tab groups by using different user interfaces, and allowing a user to navigate between the tabs corresponding to the browsing context as well as tabs that differ from each other.

Claims

1. A method for tab management in a browser, the method comprising:

identifying a browsing context for at least one tab from a plurality of tabs that are open on the browser;

assigning the at least one tab to at least one tab group, based on the identification result of the browsing context; and

displaying the assigned at least one tab group to a user.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the browsing context is identified based on a semantic analysis of content included in the at least one tab.

3. The method as claimed in claim 2, wherein the identifying of the browsing context comprises:

extracting the content included in the at least one tab; and

identifying the browsing content corresponding to the at least one tab, based on the semantic analysis of the extracted content.

4. The method as claimed in claim 3, wherein the assigning of the at least one tab to the at least one tab group comprises:

identifying the at least one tab group corresponding to the identified browsing context from among the plurality of the tab groups; and

adding the at least one tab to the at least one tab group corresponding to the identified browsing context.

5. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the identifying of the browsing context comprises:

identifying, from a tab displaying a first web page, navigation to a second web page corresponding to a hyperlink in the first web page; and

identifying the browsing context, based on the identified navigation.

6. The method as claimed in claim 5, further comprising determining that a first tab displaying the first web page and a second tab displaying the second web page are identical to each other with regard to the browsing context.

7. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the identifying of the browsing context comprises:

receiving a user input for opening a new tab by a tab manger;

identifying context of a uniform resource locator (URL) corresponding to the new tab by the tab manger; and

identifying the browsing context, based on context of the URL.

8. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein the assigning of the at least one tab to the at least one tab group comprises:

identifying a tab group identical to the identified context of the URL, from among the tab groups, by the tab manager; and

classifying the new tab to the identified tab group, by the tab manager.

9. The method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising generating the at least one tab group based on the identified browsing context.

10. The method as claimed in claim 1,

wherein the displaying of the assigned tab group to the user comprises displaying the at least one tab included in the at least one tab group, and

wherein, the displaying of the at least one tab comprises displaying, when the at least one tab is two or more, the tabs based on their individual priorities.

11. A method of navigating a plurality of tabs in at least one tab group, in a browser, the method comprising:

displaying at least one tab group including a plurality of tabs comprising contextually related content to a user;

receiving a user selection corresponding to a particular tab among the plurality of tabs in the at least one tab group; and

displaying the particular tab to the user.

12. The method as claimed in claim 11, wherein the displaying of the at least one tab group to the user comprises:

displaying at least one tab to the user;

receiving the user selection for the at least one tab among the plurality of tabs;

identifying the at least one tab group associated with the at least one tab; and

displaying the at least one tab group to the user.

13. An electronic device for tab management in a browser, the electronic device comprising:

a tab manager configured for managing a plurality of tabs that are open on the browser; and

a display,

wherein the tab manager is further configured to;

identify browsing context for at least one of the plurality of tabs open on the browser, and

assign at least one tab to at least one tab group, based on the identification result of browsing context, and

display the assigned tab group to a user.

14. The electronic device as claimed in claim 13, wherein the browsing context is identified based on a semantic analysis

15. The electronic device as claimed in claim 14, wherein the tab manager is further configured to:

perform the semantic analysis of a content that a semantic clustering module of the tab manager extracts from the at least one tab,

identify browsing context corresponding to the at least one tab based on a result of the semantic analysis,

identify a tab group corresponding to the browsing context by a sub-context management module of the tab manager, and

add the at least one tab to the identified tab group.

16. The electronic device as claimed in claim 14, wherein the tab manager is further configured to:

identify a navigation to a first web page corresponding to a hyperlink in second web page, via a navigation tracking module of the tab manager,

identify the browsing context, based on the identified navigation, and

determine that a first tab displaying the first web page and the second tab displaying the second web page have identical browsing context.

17. The electronic device as claimed in claim 13, wherein the tab manager is further configured to:

receive a user input for opening a new tab, and

identify context of a uniform resource locator (URL) corresponding to the new tab; and

identify the browsing context, based on context of the URL.

18. The electronic device as claimed in claim 17, wherein the tab manager is further configured to:

identify a tab group identical to the identified context of the URL, from among the tab groups, and

classify the new tab to the identified tab group.

19. The electronic device as claimed in claim 13, wherein the tab manager is further configured to generate at least one tab group based on the identified browsing context.

20. The electronic device as claimed in claim 13, wherein the tab manager is further configured to:

display at least one tab included in the tab group, and

displays, when the plurality of tabs is two or more, the tabs based on their individual priorities.
