Abstract

Methods of presenting video and audio perspectives of audio/video content are presented. In an example embodiment, audio/video content having a plurality of video perspectives and a plurality of audio perspectives of an event is received. Responsive to a first command from a media application configured to allow a user to select among the plurality of video perspectives, a selected first video perspective of the event is provided for presentation. Responsive to a second command from the media application that is also configured to allow a user to select among the plurality of audio perspectives, a selected first audio perspective of the event is associated with the selected first video perspective of the event, and the selected first audio perspective is provided for presentation in association with the selected first video perspective of the event.

2. A computerized method comprising:

receiving audio/video content having a plurality of video perspectives and a plurality of audio perspectives of an event;

responsive to a first command from a media application executing on at least one hardware processor of a computer system and configured to allow a user to select among the plurality of video perspectives, providing a selected first video perspective of the event for presentation; and

responsive to a second command from the media application that is also configured to allow a user to select among the plurality of audio perspectives, associating a selected first audio perspective of the event with the selected first video perspective of the event and providing the selected first audio perspective for presentation in association with the selected first video perspective of the event.

3. The computerized method of claim 2, wherein the event is a live event.

4. The computerized method of claim 2, wherein the media application is configured to allow the user to customize associations between respective ones of the plurality of video perspectives and respective ones of the plurality of audio perspectives to provide a customized audio/video representation of the event.

5. The computerized method of claim 4, wherein the event is a live event.

6. The computerized method of claim 2, further comprising:

providing, during the receiving of the audio/video content, at least two of the plurality of video perspectives for concurrent presentation, wherein the selected first video perspective is selected from the at least two of the plurality of video perspectives.

7. The computerized method of claim 2, further comprising:

responsive to a third command from the media application, associating a selected second audio perspective of the event with the selected first video perspective of the event and providing the selected second audio perspective in replacement of the first selected audio perspective for presentation in association with the selected first video perspective of the event.

8. The computerized method of claim 7, wherein the providing of the selected second audio perspective in replacement of the selected first audio perspective occurs during the providing of the selected first video perspective of the event for presentation.

9. The computerized method of claim 7, wherein the selected first audio perspective corresponds to a first spoken language, and wherein the selected second audio perspective corresponds to a second spoken language different from the first spoken language.

10. The computerized method of claim 2, further comprising:

responsive to a third command from the media application, associating a selected second video perspective of the event with the selected first audio perspective of the event and providing the selected second video perspective in replacement of the selected first video perspective for presentation in association with the selected first audio perspective of the event.

11. The computerized method of claim 10, wherein the providing of the selected second video perspective in replacement of the selected first video perspective occurs during the providing of the selected first audio perspective of the event for presentation.

12. The computerized method of claim 2, wherein the event comprises a sporting event.

13. The computerized method of claim 2, wherein the audio/video content further comprises control information indicating that each of the plurality of video perspectives and each of the plurality of audio perspectives is associated with the event.

14. The computerized method of claim 2, wherein the audio/video content further comprises descriptive information for each of the plurality of video perspectives and each of the plurality of audio perspectives.

15. The computerized method of claim 14, further comprising:

providing the descriptive information for each of the plurality of video perspectives and each of the plurality of audio perspectives for presentation on the display device prior to the first command.

16. The computerized method of claim 15, wherein the descriptive information comprises textual information.

17. The computerized method of claim 2, wherein the receiving of the audio/video content comprises receiving the plurality of video perspectives and the plurality of audio perspectives concurrently.

The computerized method of claim 17, wherein the selected first video perspective comprises a first plurality of data packets, the selected first audio perspective comprises a second plurality of data packets, and the receiving of the audio/video content comprises receiving a transport stream in which the first plurality of data packets and the second plurality of data packets are multiplexed

The computerized method of claim 18, wherein the providing of the selected first video perspective comprises identifying the first plurality of data packets based on metadata associated with each of the first plurality of data packets, and the providing of the selected first audio perspective comprises identifying the second plurality of data packets based on metadata associated with each of the second plurality of data packets.

The computerized method of claim 18, wherein the first plurality of data packets comprise a first elementary stream of the transport stream for the selected first video perspective, and the second plurality of data packets comprise a second elementary stream of the transport stream for the selected first audio perspective.

21. The computerized method of claim 2, wherein the receiving of the audio/video content comprises receiving the audio/video content from a content provider system via a communication network.

22. The computerized method of claim 21, wherein the content provider system comprises an Internet communication system.

23. The computerized method of claim 22, wherein the content provider system comprises a cellular communication system.

24. The computerized method of claim 2, wherein the receiving of the audio/video content comprises receiving the audio/video content, as one or more data streams from a content, provider system via a communication network.

25. The computerized method of claim 24, wherein the receiving of the audio/video content continues during the providing of the selected first video perspective and the providing of the selected first audio perspective.

26. The computerized method of claim 2, further comprising:

receiving, from a content provider system via a communication network, the media application; and

initiating execution, in response to receiving the media application, of the media application on the computer system.

27. The computerized method of claim 26, wherein the receiving of the media application occurs in conjunction with the receiving of the audio/video content.

28. The computerized method of claim 2, wherein the computer system is communicatively coupled with the display device.

29. The computerized method of claim 2, wherein the computer system comprises the display device.

30. A media content system comprising:

one or more hardware processors; and

a memory storing instructions that, when executed by at least one of the one or more hardware processors, cause the media content system to perform operations comprising;

receiving audio/video content having a plurality of video perspectives and a plurality of audio perspectives of an event;

responsive to a first command from a media application executing on at least one of the one or more hardware processors of the media content system and configured to allow a user to select among the plurality of video perspectives, providing a selected first video perspective of the event for presentation; and

responsive to a second command from the media application that is also configured to allow a user to select among the plurality of audio perspectives, associating a selected first audio perspective of the event with the selected first video perspective of the event and providing the selected first audio perspective for presentation in association with the selected first video perspective of the event.

31. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more hardware processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

receiving audio/video content having a plurality of video perspectives and a plurality of audio perspectives of an event;

responsive to a first command from a media application executing on at least one of the one or more hardware processors of the machine and configured to allow a user to select among the plurality of video perspectives, providing a selected first video perspective of the event for presentation; and

responsive to a second command from the media application that is also configured to allow a user to select among the plurality of audio perspectives, associating a selected first audio perspective of the event with the selected first video perspective of the event and providing the selected first audio perspective for presentation in association with the selected first video perspective of the event.
